The Lady Raiders (9-5, 0-3 Big12) lost the third Big12 Conference game of the season against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls (12-2,2-1) on Wednesday, Jan 6, 2016. Tech allowed the Cowgirls a 9 point run in the first four minutes of the 1st Qtr before holding OSU scoreless and ending the quarter ahead 12-11. The Lady Raiders again allowed OSU to go on a run at the top of the 2nd Qtr but failed to make up the difference going into half-time, down 26-17. The pattern continued in the 3rd Qtr, with a 10-2 run by the Cowgirls and a 17 point lead for OSU. The bleeding did not stop in the 4th Qtr with a final score of Tech 46, OSU 69.  The stats are not good for Tech with a 25.93% FG% in the first half of play but they did improve in the 2nd half of the game with a 40% FG%. For the most part only two of the Lady Raiders  were productive on the floor. Rayven Brooks and Japreece Dean scored 16 and 13 points respectively with Ivonne CookTaylor producing 8 points.   The Big12 is a very tough conference and the Lady Raiders need to step it up and play cohesively and with a lot more mental toughness if they are to get any wins this season.

The fourth Big12 Conference game of the season takes the Lady Raiders to Morgantown, W. VA to play the West Virginia Mountaineers (13-3, 2-1 Big12) at 7pm EST (6pm CST) at the WVU Coliseum. I am hoping that Tech can end their losing streak and beat the Mountaineers. The Lady Raiders had the Mountaineers number last season, beating them in both meetings soundly. Here is hoping we do the same this season.  Texas Tech will need to play hard defense and especially cover the 3-Pt arch as the Mountaineers have increased their 3-Pt production from 4.6 per game last season to 6.0 per game so far this year. WVU has knocked down eight or more 3-Ptrs five times this season, including the last three games. Tech needs to control the game and push for points-in-the-paint and making points off turnovers. It will be tough on the boards as WVU is the best in the Big12 averaging 5.88 Blocks per game. The Lady Raiders need to limit their fouls and they need to be accurate in their attempts on the basket.

Focus on the game at hand

Get the Win ….. Wreck’Em !!!!

Improvement is the word this season.
