Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese: Will Texas Tech football get back on track? Score prediction for Arizona game

Arizona 35, Texas Tech 21: This is a pivot point for the Red Raiders to determine where they’ll be in the Big 12 title race. Problem is, Texas Tech struggled to generate offense against a bad Cincinnati defense, and Arizona’s defense has been quality all season. Bad recipe.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams: Texas Tech football midyear review unveils MVPs, positives, reasons for concern

Shiel Wood’s on the spot: We pointed out last week that Tech was starting a four-game stretch against teams among the best in the country at either running the football or throwing it. Right off the bat, Cincinnati did both and upset Tech 37-24. Now the Red Raiders face teams sitting No. 9 in the FBS in passing offense (Arizona), No. 6 in rushing offense (West Virginia) and tied for No. 2 in passing offense (Oklahoma State). This is the defining stretch of the season.

Red Raider Sports’ Mason Turnbow: Joey McGuire expects Texas Tech to respond against Arizona, embraces playoff mindset

Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire is confident the Red Raiders will bounce back after a frustrating loss to Cincinnati as they prepare to face Arizona on Saturday. During his local radio show at Rudy’s BBQ, McGuire discussed the defensive mistakes that plagued Texas Tech, the growing parity across college football and the team’s mindset moving forward. With running back Cameron Dickey expected to return and Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita presenting a significant challenge, the Red Raiders are looking to respond and approach every remaining game with the urgency of a playoff matchup.

Dallas Morning News’ Kevin Sherrington: Cody Campbell, Texas Tech’s bombastic billionaire booster, could learn from Jerry Jones

Jerry’s gotten into it with the people who host his weekly radio show as well as his Hall of Fame play-by-play man. I got a call once from a Cowboys official asserting I’d wished death on Jerry. Preposterous, I said. Not only would such a thing cost me my pew, I’d lose the source of my best punchlines.

As overbearing as he can be, here’s the thing even Jerry knows that Campbell needs to learn:

If you’re determined to leave your fingerprints all over an institution that belongs to the public, not you, at least do it with a smile.
Don’t pick on people smaller than you.
Don’t double down on slights.
Don’t hold grudges.

ESPN’s Max Olson: Sources: Texas Tech to use Castellanos, Hammond vs. Arizona

Quarterbacks Thomas Castellanos and Will Hammond will both play significant snaps Saturday as No. 13 Texas Tech hosts No. 22 Arizona in a matchup with major implications for the Big 12 championship race, sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Castellanos, a fifth-year senior, is expected to receive an uptick in snaps after he didn’t make an appearance in the Red Raiders’ loss at Cincinnati last Saturday — a decision coach Joey McGuire said Monday that he regretted.

Texas Tech soccer: The Red Raiders take sole possession of first place in the Big 12

No. 11 Texas Tech (12-1-4, 8-1-1) took town No. 8 Baylor (14-3-1, 7-2-1) 1-0 on Friday night at John Walker Soccer Complex thanks to sophomore Gianna Gregoire’s first career goal and Addie Todd’s 10th shutout of the season.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams: Texas Tech baseball undergoing another coaching staff shakeup

Tech announced that new staff member Jacob Evans will take over Foster’s role for the 2027 season. Tech hired Evans in August to be the director of pitching development.

Evans was a left-handed pitcher for the Oklahoma Sooners from 2013 through 2015 and then pitched in the St. Louis Cardinals’ system from 2015-18. He since worked on staff at Oklahoma (2019) and Central Oklahoma (2020-22) and then spent four years at PitchingWRX, an Oklahoma City company that promotes itself as “data-driven pitching instruction.”
