Before the game, Texas Tech received one of two commitments, the first was Skyline quarterback Velton Gardner, who is projected to play inside receiver for Texas Tech. Gardner was originally committed to Kansas State, but decommitted last week and will now hopefully play for the good guys in the fall.

Gardner is going to make one helluva inside receiver because he’s a ton of fun to watch as a quarterback and because he’s really versatile, he’s got that shiftiness and ability to miss that you like to see at inside receiver and you’d have to think that his ability to play quarterback and have a general sense of what the quarterback is thinking is beneficial to his understanding of the game. And he does have the ability to make people miss and he can out-run some folks. Skyline usually plays pretty good teams in DISD, so you typically wonder if that’s part of the equation. The thing that’s probably the most fun is how he can change direction so quickly and break ankles as the defender is turning around and falling down.

Gardner is commitment #18 for Texas Tech (I’ve never done write-ups on the two special teamers, P Jordan Sandy from Melbourne and K Alan Orona from La Grange). Cooper Laake is commitment #19 that happened on Sunday.
