You surprised? Yeah, me too. Between us, this has been on the staff’s radar [the staff being STP] for a few months as we picked up an article or two along the way. And now we’re here.

RedRaiderSports’ Ben Golan and Inside TheRedRaider’s Jarrett Johnson both have commitment stories, but you know really learn a ton other than that Goldin is originally from Nalchik, Russsia and played for the CSKA Moscow Junior Team. Goldin averaged 10 points and 5 boards with 2 blocks last year for PUtnam Science Academy. This si the fourth player that Beard has signed from PSA, including Malik Ondigo, Josh Mballa, and Russel Tchewa.

There is also an official release from Texas Tech for a bit of additional information on Goldin:

Goldin played at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut last year for coach Tom Espinosa after competing for CSKA Moscow Junior Team for three seasons. He played in 13 games at the U18 Euro Championship and U19 World Cup in 2019.

The second video gives you a big of a better look at Goldin and what he does. Relatively athletic, but maybe more skilled than guys like Ondigo or Tchewa. You get the feeling that he understands basketball a bit better. Looks like he can score with both hands and has a nice touch around the basket. Has a variety of moves and can go hard to the rim, but at 220, he’s got to add some stregnth.

Here comes the fun part.

You’ll note that there are 14 spots taken and I didn’t have a spot utilized for Avery Benson, so even with him going off of scholarship, Texas Tech is still over one spot. And you’ll note that with Burton and McClung currently waiting on waivers (although Burton is supposed to redshirt) someone is going to have to go. There aren’t a ton of guards, so I don’t know Beard’s plan, but there are only 13 allowed.
