With the spring semester starting, Double-T 97.3’s Jamie Lent is looking at each position and has started with first base and catcher. Here’s a bit about the battle at first base:

Regardless of that movement and others taking their turn at first, it is hard to envision a scenario where Robin Villeneuve is not taking a high percentage of the reps at 1B. However, Porter’s left handed power bat should play well at Rip Griffin Park so I would expect to see him hold down the DH spot on many days. Ferraro is likely the second best defender in the group and I would expect to see him a good amount in right field. Either way, it’s clear that the Red Raiders have the potential to have three really talented players at this spot that should be able to drive in a bunch of runs.

On the Hardwood

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Stephen Garcia on what Lady Raider point guard Gemma Nunez has brought to her team:

“We were in the market for, not necessarily a pass-first point guard, but for a general,” Gerlich said Dec. 11, “for a floor general. I love how unselfish she is. I love how much she understands the game, especially only having her for one year. We needed somebody that was really experienced and had a high basketball IQ.”

On the Gridiron

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams writes about proposed the NCAA rule (not even sure if that’s the correct term) of 5 years to play 5 seasons is not expected to happen. Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire has been a big proponent of this rule and Williams I don’t think is a fan of this rule. The football coaches association proposed a new rule to allow a player to take a redshirt if they play less than 9 games (the current rule is 4 and the basketball coaches need to work on this).

Texas Tech is still hosting portal players including (but not limited to) Missouri edge Damon Wilson II and Kent State edge Jamond Mathis. I am sure there are others, but those are the two that I’ve seen on social media.

ESPN’s Matt Miller has 2027 NFL Draft prospects. Listed is QB Brendan Sorsby, TE Terrance Carter, Jr., OT Jacob Ponton, C Sheridan Wilson, C Cash Cleveland, and DT A.J. Holmes, Jr.
