Pre-Spring Position Previews: Running Back

What I think:

  • This was a lot easier to write than all of the other ones and would expect the quarterbacks one to be pretty easy to write as well.
  • Dickey and Williams were fantastic last year and I honestly can’t imagine how this gets split with Joyner added in. I think that Williams might get some looks at inside receiver, but that’s going to be crowded as well. It’s always interesting to think that
  • Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams luckily reported on a few things, including the availability of Joyner, who won’t be participating in spring practices, but is straight-line running. And last week, McGuire said that Joyner will be cleared June 1st I believe. Williams also reported (I cannot find the link so you’ll just have to trust me) that the staff wants to use Williams much like Miami’s Malachi Toney, just a versatile player that’s all over the field and in different spots.
  • As we had previously discussed, Adam Hill has moved to linebacker while Oliver Miles III is moving back to safety, which are the reasons they are not included in this preview and they are included in the linebacker and defensive back previews.
  • Michael Henderson III does remain in the running back room.
  • Rowden is a really powerful back, I don’t think he’s similar to Dickey or Williams, I think he’s going to be a different runner. My hope is that we don’t see him at all this year because there are 3 outstanding running backs and Henderson (we just haven’t seen enough of Henderson to know what he is, but he does run hard) that will compete for playing time.
