On the Diamond
Texas Tech baseball fell to No. 24 UTSA last night, 9-8. This is a 2-game set and the second game is tonight with first pitch at 6:30 p.m.
NiJaree Canady was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the 2nd week in a row for Texas Tech, which will happen when you throw a no-hitter.
On the Hardwood
Christian Anderson was named All-Big 12 1st team and Most Improved Player and JT Toppin was named All-Big 12 First team as part of the Big 12 post-season awards. Arizona’s Jaden Bradley was named as the Player of the Year and Arizona was clearly the best team in the Big 12, but I don’t think he was the best player. Additionally, Texas Tech will play the winner of Arizona State vs. Iowa State tomorrow and I’ll have a preview ready for that in the morning (don’t have a clue how I’m going to get this done, but I’ll do my best).
On the Gridiron
I don’t have the time for a non-transcript this morning, but presser from the first practice is below.

Texas Tech announced number changes and new assigned numbers. This doesn’t move the needle for me, but if you want to look at the roster, which I presume is updated, then that’s the link.
Red Raider Sports’ Landon Jordan recaps the presser if you don’t have time to listen.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams on the receiver room (and there are other notes later in the article) where head coach Joey McGuire said that they’ll have to rotate more, which is something I mentioned in my look at the receivers (it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that something has to give if you’re going to play all of these players). Here’s McGuire on Micah Hudson who and the receiver group:
“Micah did a lot of things to be back at Texas Tech,” McGuire said, “because he knew this is where he should have been and stayed. It’s going to pay off.
“He’s running with the ones. One thing, I think we as a team are really deep, so you’re going to see, I think, a bigger rotation at receiver than what we’ve had in the past, without a doubt, because we are deeper in that room.”
Red Raider Sports’ Jarrett Ramirez on Terrance Carter, Jr. and the connection he’s forming with Brendan Sorsby.
