On the Pitch

Texas Tech soccer hosts New Mexico tonight for a scrimmage at 7:00 p.m. at the John Walker Soccer Complex.

The Red Raiders return an exciting core in 2026 that includes a trio of All-Big 12 Preseason honorees in Kylie Bahr, Eleanor Hayes and Taylor Zdrojewski. Also back this season for Tech is All-Big 12 Freshman Team honorees Raleigh Greason and Emma Torres. As a squad the Red Raiders were picked fifth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll receiving 180 total points and one first place vote.

Tech’s returning core was also bolstered through both the high school and portal ranks, as Tech brought in three Power Four transfers this offseason including two-time national champion Addie Todd from Florida State, BYU transfer Abbi Sine and Penn State transfer Emma Fassora.

On the Hardwood

Red Raider Sports’ Lane Selph on Jamichael Stillwell and other players part of this particular lawsuit in Georgia received an injunction which would seemingly make Stillwell eligible for 2026-27.

On the Gridiron

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams talks to some of the players who can benefit from the new 5-and-5 rule, receiver Kenny Johnson, safety Brendan Jordan, and Cameron Dickey to name a few, who all have played 4 years and would have a 5th year option.

“I think just trying to make things as black and white for our guys as possible, trying to eliminate some of the gray area maybe that we had in the offense. And just try to get these guys doing what they do well and kind of being able to cut out any of the extra fluff of the offense. So just putting our guys in the best position to be successful and allow them to play fast is kind of what we’ve tried to accomplish this offseason.”

ESPN’s Bill Connelly with the 40 most crucial players of the 2026 season and one Will Hammond makes this list at No. 4, as is Adam Trick and Kenny Johnson. Here’s the bit on Hammond:

4. Will Hammond, Texas Tech. The first time he filled in for an injured Behren Morton last season, Hammond was super promising. The second time, he was partially responsible for Texas Tech’s only regular-season loss, then tore his ACL. Now, thanks to the Brenden Sorsby saga, he’s rushing back to take the reins of a potential top-five team. When healthy, he’s a promising efficiency passer and dangerous scrambler. He’ll have to be both healthy and good as soon as possible.

CBS Sports’ Cody Nagel ranks the Big 12 coaches and has Joey McGuire behind BYU’s Kalani Sitake and Houston’s Willie Fritz:

You might be asking how a coach who went 3-0 last season against the two Big 12 coaches ranked ahead of him lands third on this list. It’s a fair question, but this ranking values sustained success over a single breakthrough season. McGuire took a heavily invested roster and turned Texas Tech into a Big 12 champion and College Football Playoff participant. If the Red Raiders back it up in 2026, he’ll have a strong case for the top spot next year. Last year: No. 13 in Big 12
