Double-T 97.3’s Jamie Lent has a ton of baseball content, including recaps from some of the fall ball scrimmages and a podcast/video with Chois Woodman.

On the Hardwood

Texas Tech basketball will hold their annual block party on October 29th that will start around 7:45 pm in front of Chimy’s.

CBS Sports names their preseason All-American teams and they have JT Toppin on their 2nd team. Other Big 12 players on the list are Kansas’ Tyran Stokes, Arizona’s Motiejus Krivas, and BYU’s Robert Wright, III.

The Lady Raiders defeated Angelo State 81-40 behind 26 points from Jalynn Bristow, who also had 9 boards and 18 points from Stephanie Okechukwu. As you may recall, Okechukwu is the 7-footer from Nigeria who was in a bit of limbo last year, but is obviously eligible this year.

On the Gridiron

The AP Top 25 has Texas Tech moving up 2 spots to #8 with BYU moving to #2 and Utah moving up a spot to #10. These cowards (I am kidding) continue to just not rank Oregon State. The other hilarious thing is that Texas is at #19, while Florida, who just beat Texas in Austin, checks in at #20. Don’t let anyone tell you that this is supposed to make sense.

In five years under Joey McGuire, the Red Raiders have tended to improve as seasons go along. Maybe Saturday’s game, the Red Raiders’ best all-around performance this year, is a sign that’s about to happen again. Austin Romaine, for example, has had time to get his feet on the ground. Will Hammond has had time to make up for lost time.

During Texas Tech’s first offensive drive of the game Saturday against Arizona State, old habits came back. As the Red Raiders were driving down the field — which included Jordan Church grabbing, spinning and shoving Hammond forward for a first-down run — Hammond bent down and unleashed a spattering of fluid onto the Galaxy Stadium turf. He continued to orchestrate the drive, spitting out the bad taste before each snap.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams: Why did the NCAA choose to die on this hill? Here’s why | Williams

In announcing the adoption of the new model in June, the NCAA did so by noting the unanimous approval (emphasis mine) of the Division I Cabinet. That decision wasn’t made without feedback and support of the membership. Here, it’s important to understand who makes up the Division I Cabinet.

Members of the Division I Cabinet aren’t holed up in cubicles at the national office in Indianapolis. They’re 20 people working at NCAA member schools all over the country. The current makeup includes the athletics directors at Arizona, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and Illinois, ADs from four smaller schools, deputy ADs from Michigan State and Washington State, commissioners or associate or assistant commissioners from four conferences, three athletes, faculty athletics representatives and a former AD.
