We’ve having our somewhat annual Staking The Plains Holiday Gift Guide. I asked the staff to do a post of their holiday gift ideas and they’ll start at 8:00 a.m. and go every hour until we’re out. This is one of my favorite things we do (even though we skipped last year) because I love seeing what everyone suggests.

Texas Tech Volleyball

If you missed this over the weekend, please give it up for the ladies and Tony Graystone for advancing to the third round of the NIVC tournament.

Lady Raider Basketball

Texas Tech Basketball

Texas Tech Football

If you’re catching up from over the weekend, Texas Tech picked up a wak-on quarterback that played at Tyler JC this year and was previously at Levelland, Nick Gerber. Gerber set the steason record for touchdowns and yards while at Lvelland.

A-J Media’s Don Williams has a football notebook from yesterday’s media availability with head coach Kliff Kingsbury. There’s a lot there, and I’ll try to hit the big things: 1) Nic Shimonek will start the game (which is fine, but I hope Jett Duffey and McLane Carter are getting a ton of snaps in practice); 2) FB Mason Reed is still out with concussion issues, but RB Justin Stockton will play, while CB Jaylon Lane and S Willie Sykes probably won’t play in the bowl game; 3) Kingsbury said that DT’s Joe Wallace and Nelson Mbanasor are impressing in practice; 4) Since Kingsbury special teams coach Joe Robinson go, all of the coaches will pick up a part of special teams preparation; 5) RB DaLeon Ward is getting close to returning to the team during the spring; 6) Kingsbury is keeping Xavier Martin at inside receiver; and 7) Jett Duffey is progressing and Kingsbury said that he’s starting to get his mojo back.

Miscellaneous . . . A-J Media’s Michael LaBarre has how the remaining Texas Tech commits performed in the state playoffs . . . as an aside, I finally got around to updating the Staking The Plains 2018 Football Recruiting Table, so it’s there for you to check out and click on things . . . A-J Media’s Don Williams and RedRaiderSports’ Will McKay have early previews of South Florida . . .
