Leading Off

Former women’s golfer Gabby Barker made her professional debut on Thursday at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Oneida, Wisconsin (TexasTech). That’s not all of the good news for the ladies as Lauren Mason, Mami Yamamoto, and Amy Taylor were selections for the All-American Scholars list (TexasTech).

Two men’s golfers, Hurly Long and Fredrick Nilehn will play on Team International at the 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup on Friday at the Evian Resoft Golf Club in Evian, France (TexasTech).

Since we’re getting all golfy, you can actually support the golf programs by participating in the Reagor Dykes-Jerry S. RAwls Partnership on July 13-15. Details via A-J Media’s Mike Graham including team entry fees.

Texas Tech Baseball

D1Baseball named Gabe Holt as a first team Freshman All-American at second base. It’s funny to look there as all of the other first teamers have a total combined number of stolen bases at 38, while Holt had 29 by himself.

Davis Martin announced on Twitter that he’s going to forgo his senior year and join the Chicago White Sox organization (Davis Martin @ Twitter). Caleb Kilian has until 4:00 p.m. today to make a decision about his decision to turn pro. Best of luck to Davis and congrats on accomplishing one of your goals. Lots of spots need to get filled up on that pitching staff.

Texas Tech Basketball

Zhaire Smith will make his NBA Summer League debut tonight at 7:30 p.m. (am guessing that time is Eastern, but check your local listings) against the Boston Celtics. Philly’s Keith Pompey:

“It is a little nervousness,” Smith said of Friday’s debut. “It’s my first game in a while. My first game in the NBA. So I’m a little nervous.

“But it sort of passed on the nervousness. It’s a little excitement, too. So I’m not too nervous.”
