The Morning Stake | 2022.08.26

Just giving you all a heads-up about what to expect going forward this football season. On Monday or Tuesday I’ll definitely have a intro post that gets into the week ahead as well as looking a bit at the prior week. On Friday I’ll do my regular 7 Point Preview, first thing in the morning. On Saturday I’ll have 1 game thread for the entire day. Yes, the purpose behind this is to discourage game-threads. It’s so much to police and so much extra to produce those posts. After the game I’ll do a position review that will act as a post-game thread where you grade each position group. Sunday I’ve got 10 Things and then we do it all over again. Don’t forget that Michael and Spencer with 23 Personnel Podcast will do their weekly work as well as post-game instant reaction. Our friends at Gamblin’ Gauchos will continue to do their strong work and then there’s the rest of the internet that’s producing a ton of Texas Tech content.

Goin’ Band from Raiderland

Congrats to the Goin’ Band as they’re going to New York City in November of 2023 for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

CBS Sports’ Shehan Jeyarajah gets the CBS Sports college football group together to write about the Big 12. Not a ton of Texas Tech discussion, but will let you know that half of the group thinks Texas Tech will finish 8th and the other half 9th.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams writes about defensive lineman Vidal Scott, the Arkansas State transfer:

No way Scott was going to turn down the chance to play under the bright lights of Jones AT&T Stadium and in the Big 12.

“It’s always been my dream, playing power-five football,” he said. “It’s really like a dream come true. So I’ve got to take the best of the opportunity.”

Scott, 6-foot-2 and 285 pounds, is a sixth-year senior in his last season of eligibility. He’s one of five players expected to be in the Red Raiders’ rotation at defensive tackle. Scott and Myles Cole, a transfer from Louisiana-Monroe, provide depth behind returnees Jaylon Hutchings, Tony Bradford and Phillip Blidi.

Athlon Sports has 15 things to watch in college football and this is just something to read so you don’t have to work this morning.

Red Raider Sports’ Justin Apodaca has recaps of the pressers from offensive line coach Stephen Hamby and defensive line coach Zarnell Fitch. As an aside, the video has not been posted of these pressers.

Very cool.

And Tyree Wilson dressed to the 9’s.
