ESPN ($) has a couple of names as possible candidates, names that have already been bandied around, Oral Roberts’ Paul Mills and North Texas’ Grant McCasland. McCasland is also a candidate at Ole Miss if they don’t hire Chris Beard, who appears to be leading that opening. Also mentioned is Rodney Terry at Texas.
The Athletic’s Brian Hamilton ($) has a more robust list of coaching candidates: Baylor associate head coach John Jakus; UAB head coach Andy Kennedy; former Missouri head coach Cuonzo Martin; North Texas head coach Grant McCasland; Oral Roberts head coach Paul Mills; Texas Tech assistant coach Al Pinkins; Houston assistant coach Kellen Sampson; and Texas head coach Rodney Terry. That’s plenty of names for you all to research and Hamilton sort of thinks that this race would be between Terry, Sampson, and McCasland, with Terry and McCasland being very safe choices and Sampson obviously being a bit of a wildcard. I would actually be good with any of those three and I sort of like the idea of Terry or Sampson.
