Texas Tech Track & Field

The Teas Tech men’s track & field team won their second straight Big 12 title on Saturday with 152 points, the Oklahoma State Cowboys were 2nd with 92 points. The women finished 2nd behind Texas with 104 points. According to the recap, it was the sprints where Texas Tech dominated:

The Red Raiders crowned four individual champions Saturday as Don’Dre Swint (6.55) and Rosemary Chukwuma (7.23) won the 60m. Temitope Adeshina claimed the high jump (1.90m | 6-2 ¾), while Terrence Jones won the 200m (20.21). Tech’s 4×400 team of Caleb Dean, Carl Hicks, Josh Bour and Shaemar Uter put the icing on the cake with a school record 4×400 time of 3:02.76. Dean was named the meet’s High Point Scorer with 17.5 points.

In the men’s 60m, the Red Raiders turned in a 1-2-4-5-6 finish led by Swint. Dean and Houston’s Shaun Maswanganyi tied in second at 6.62 (.620). Meanwhile, the women’s 60m squad turned in a 1-2-3 finished led by Chukwuma. Alyssa Colbert (7.26) and Success Umukoro (728) finished second and third, respectively.

Texas Tech Baseball & Softball

Texas Tech swept Texas Southern this weekend: a 32-5 win on Friday; a 20-4 win on Saturday; and a 16-5 win on Sunday. I’ve embedded highlights from the 32-5 win and don’t know how that gets condensed into under 3 minutes. I’d also add that it would seem that this would throw off any meaningful run differential stats for the course of the season. They will host Gardner-Webb on Friday for a weekend series and then will have a game at New Mexico and then conference play starts on March 8th hosting Texas.

Softball went 6-0 this weekend at the North Texas Tournament (I won’t link to every game, but that’s a link to the schedule) where they defeated SFA 4-0, Minnesota 2-1 and 7-6, and North Texas 8-7 and 5-2. These ladies will have a one-off against New Mexico on Wednesday and then host the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic.

Lady Raider Basketball

Lady Raider Basketball dropped another game to Cincinnati 68-56 and I sort of don’t know what to say, Cincy wasn’t a good team and maybe this team isn’t a good team either. I can’t say that I have kept track of things enough to know everything that’s happening, I know there have been injuries and I also know that I don’t want a reboot of the program either. The Lady Raiders have TCU in Ft. Worth on Wednesday.

Texas Tech Football

Red Raider Sports’ Ben Golan has a bit of a sobering look at how Joey McGuire’s first transfer class has panned out (it’s not all bad, but it’s not all Snickers and Kit Kats either). Now I realize that past successes or failures is not indicative of future success or failure, however, it is usually a decent thought to temper expectations. The offensive line right now looks to add 4 transfers that could be starters and that’s probably a big ask. The defensive tackle spot has 2 super-senior transfers. Interesting for sure.
