Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams reports that it was announced that the student section at Galaxy Stadium will be named “The Jones Student Section at Galaxy Stadium” and that seems like a good workaround for keeping the name “Jones” as part of the lexicon.

“They’re going to continue to show up at the Jones,” Hocutt told the crowd. “So you can imagine our student body doing what they do, and I ask our students to continue to do what they do and make it the wildest environment in all of college football, and each and every Saturday, pack the Jones student seating section at Galaxy Stadium and continue to have great moments and memories with Texas Tech football.”

The Athletic’s Dan Santoromita and Austin Mock (these guys are much different than Stewart Mandel) are looking at odds and have run projections and they give Texas Tech a 48.1% chance of winning the Big 12 with the odds to win 10.3 games:

Mock: My model’s fondness is more about how Texas Tech is head and shoulders above the rest of the Big 12 right now. I think we saw that in the Big 12 title game last year, when the Red Raiders dismantled BYU. It is especially true when comparing their trenches to the rest of the conference. It’s not shocking to see this, though, considering we know that Texas Tech is spending near the top of the sport – and I’m not sure the next best Big 12 program is within $10 million. That’s going to be hard to overcome.

I’m not saying Tech is a lock to win the Big 12, but it’s going to take a pretty sizable upset to knock the Raiders off.

Action Network has opened the odds for the Abilene Christian game and Texas Tech is favored by 42.5 with the open at 41.5.
