Starting 5

1. Stats. The Cowboys are a top third offense, so better than previous years. They are a terrible turnover team, 281st in the nation, and the other thing that they don’t do well is free throws, 271st, in free throw percentage. They are a decent team shooting inside the arc, 99th in the nation, and 172nd in 3-point shooting. The Cowboys are 229th in offensive rebounding percentage and 129th in free throw rate. So they just are sort of middling. On the defensive side of the ball, they aren’t elite like they used to be, they are 141st in opponent 3-point percentage, 230th in opponent 2-point percentage. The Cowboys are only 188th in turnover percentage, so they aren’t turning a ton of people over, and the one they they do really well is opponent free throw rate, 55th in the nation.

2. Scouting. Small and Dailey are easily the best players. Small is a high assist and high rebound guy who shoots pretty darned well, 50% from inside the arc and 37% from outside. He’s the guy to absolutely guard from outside. Dailey rebounds really well and doesn’t turn the ball over as well as shooting 56% inside the arc, but just 31% outside. Wright is the other shooter you have to watch, another low turnover guy. If you want to salivate over a 6’11” center who is just extremely talented, Garrison is that guy. High block rate, incredible defensive rebounder, and shoots a lot of free throws. Incredibly athletic and again, sure would be nice to have another 6’11” center guard him, but I’m not holding my breath.

3. How They Match Up. T-Rank says that Texas Tech only wins by 1.5, so basically a toss-up. Texas Tech should have an offensive advantage here, but that doesn’t always travel. It would be great to get Oklahoma State to turn the ball over and basically utilize the same type of game-plan as they did against West Virginia. There are certain guys you don’t guard on defense and try to limit the big guy inside as much as possible. I am guessing that Warren Washington won’t play and I am also expecting that Lindsay won’t be with the team either. Call both thoughts a hunch.

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:

Texas Tech will look to sweep its regular-season series against Oklahoma State for the first time since 2019 and for only the fourth time since their Big 12 series began in 1997 when the Red Raiders and Cowboys meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Gallagher-Iba Arena. Tech won 90-73 in the first matchup this season on January 9 in Lubbock with Pop Isaacs leading the team with 24 points in the only game this season with all five starters scoring in double figures.

The Red Raiders (20-9, 9-7 Big 12) enter the final week of the regular season after earning an 81-70 road win at West Virginia where they trailed 20-4 to begin the game and 45-39 at halftime before storming back to improve to 3-5 on the road in conference games. Joe Toussaint led Tech with 21 points, seven assists, and three steals in the game, while Darrion Williams went for 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals and Chance McMillian made five 3-pointers to finish with 19 points. Tech made 13 3-pointers and had 21 assists in the win that took it over the 20-win milestone for the 17th time in program history. The Cowboys (12-17, 4-12 Big 12) are looking to snap a three-game losing streak after a loss at Texas and home defeats to UCF and Oklahoma. OSU is currently 10-7 on its home court this season.
