On the Diamond
D1 Baseball’s Kendall Rogers was the first to report that Texas Tech and Tim Tadlock is hiring Colorado Rockies Director of Pitching Development, Steve Foster. According to his Wikipedia, Foster was born in DeSoto, went to Blinn College out of high school and ended up at UT-Arlington where he was drafted by the Reds. He started his coaching career in 1996 and most recently was hired as the pitching coach for the Colorado Rockies in 2014 and in 2021 was the director of pitching.
SCOOP: @TTU_Baseball is hiring Steve Foster as its new pitching coach, I’m told. Foster has quite the resume as he heads to Lubbock. He spent seven seasons as the big league pitching coach for the @Rockies + three more as the Director of Pitching Development for the org. #Wreckem… pic.twitter.com/b8IEPetoBC

On the Hardwood
Jon Rothstein was the first to report of Texas Tech playing Arkansas in Dallas at the American Airlines Center on December 13th (I believe the American Airlines Arena was in Miami and is now the Kaseya Center). As Rothstein points out in a subsequent X/Tweet, that Texas Tech will play @ Illinois, Wake Forest, Purdue/Memphis, LSU, Arkansas, and Duke. That’s a pretty solid non-conference slate.

On the Gridiron
On Thursday, Texas Tech received a commitment from cornerback S’Vioarean Martin (6-2/185) from Palestine, Texas (Rivals | 24/7 Sports). Martin was offered by Arizona, Baylor, California, Houston, Kansas State, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, and a solid list of teams from the Group of 5 conferences. If you click on the 24/7 Sports link there is a scouting breakdown from Gabe Brooks and that same link has him running a 11.05 as a junior in the 100m and a 39-9 in the triple jump.
Red Raider Sports’ Ben Golan talked with Martin about his commitment.
