Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese on Jerry Glasco earning a contract extension and pay raise:
The deal was finalized in early July, a month after the Red Raiders finished their run in the 2025 Women’s College World Series, falling to Texas in the decisive Game 3 of the championship series.
Glasco’s first deal called for him to make a combined $1,077,284 for the 2026, 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons. The new contract will earn Glasco $1,470,000 over the next five years, with the last three years earning him $300,000 per year, following salaries of $280,000 for the 2026 season and $290,000 for the 2027 campaign.

On the Gridiron
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese on how Texas Tech will handle Kansas QB Jalon Daniels:
Despite his six-year collegiate career, which includes 43 career games, Daniels’ injury history and the Big 12 Conference’s scheduling, which did not pair Texas Tech and Kansas in 2024, have prevented the matchup from happening. Tech linebacker Bryce Ramirez, in his seventh year with the Red Raiders, admitted it’s a bit odd that it’s never occurred to this point.
“It is weird how it played out,” Ramirez said Tuesday. “He was injured like every time we played them, so I’m excited to play him finally. It’ll be huge. He’s a really good player. Poses a great challenge for us. I love challenges. We as a team love challenges.”
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams with a few notes on the use of the new Double-T, including that the beveled Double-T will continue to be used by the university:
“I think it was just something the university really liked remaining with the (beveled) Double T,” Giovannetti said, “and you see a lot of campuses do that. There’s an athletics mark, and then there’s a campus mark. We have a great partnership with media and communications on campus. President (Lawrence) Schovanec has been involved in this from the beginning.”
Giovannetti noted numerous variations in the Double T around Tech’s sports facilities and said it would be impractical to change out some of them.
ESPN’s Heather Dinich on the playoff picture and thinks that BYU and Texas Tech are on a collision course:
Spotlight: BYU. The undefeated Cougars are here because they’re on a collision course with Texas Tech to play for the Big 12 title. According to ESPN Analytics, BYU has the second-best chance to reach the Big 12 championship game (43%) behind the Red Raiders (67.3%). This will get settled on the field before then, as those teams play each other Nov. 8 at Texas Tech. It’s currently the only game on the Cougars’ schedule that ESPN’s FPI gives them less than a 50% chance to win. Even if BYU loses that game, if it’s the Cougars’ only loss, they could face Texas Tech again in the league championship. BYU would lock up a spot with the Big 12 title, but two losses to the Red Raiders would likely knock them out as the conference runner-up. That depends, though, on how many Big 12 opponents are ranked by the selection committee.
CBS Sports’ Mike Renner has his top 50 prospects and has David Bailey at No. 19:
19. David Bailey, EDGE, Texas Tech
The Stanford transfer is finally getting a shot at a full-time role and flourishing. He put up 13 pressures this past week against Houston and is almost at his pressure total from 2024 already. Bailey has the best first step in the class and easily the best speed-rusher available.
