On the Diamond
Texas Tech baseball announces the 2026 baseball schedule with 31 home games and facing 11 participants that played in the post-season last year.
On the Hardwood
Texas Tech basketball will be at the Big 12 Media Day on October 22nd (the release says November 22nd, but I think it will happen next week) at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. Christian Anderson and JT Toppin will represent Texas Tech.
On the Gridiron
It was all a lie.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams was the first to make the Freedom of Information Act request for the video and any communication between Texas Tech and the Big 12. I am also guessing here, that someone from the athletic department could have asked Don to make such request and would have been more than happy and ready to deliver the goods. The video shows a Kansas staff member dropping the knife, a Kansas player picking it up, and another staff member receiving the knife. There is no knife thrown during the game.
Earlier in the day the Big 12 issued a statement and penalized each team $25,000, Texas Tech for not taking sufficien steps to prevent throwing objects on the field and Kansas:
Tech said its review of video found no evidence that the pocketknife was thrown from the bleachers. The conference appeared to accept that finding, saying, “Kansas has been fined for disparaging comments about the Conference and a member institution, and an inaccurate statement regarding a pocketknife by head coach Lance Leipold.”
David Collier was the first I think to post the video to X/Twitter:
Here’s the video of the Kansas sideline obtained from Texas Tech as a result of an open records request. https://t.co/tyallPSAQq pic.twitter.com/KdVXqRZpR9

This is ridiculously embarrassing for Kansas and vindication for Texas Tech. Tortillas? Yes, for sure. A pocketknife? No, never happened and Kansas head coach Lance Leipold issued a non-apology. I just can’t imagine making this thing up post-game, saying something in the post-game press conference and just thinking there would not be video of what actually happened. It would seem that Kansas and Leipold should be penalized more, but I think the vindication is sufficient. This also says a ton about Leipold in my opinion.
The Big 12 availability report was released last night and for the record, Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt is probable, while DT Skyler Gill-Howard is officially out for the game. This is the list for Texas Tech:
OUT
DL #0 Skyler Gill-Howard
WR #4 T.J. West
CB #23 Tarrion Grant
DOUBTFUL
WR #18 Roy Alexander
S #25 Chapman Lewis
QUESTIONABLE
QB #2 Behren Morton
OLB #9 Romello Height
OL #53 Holton Hendrix
OL #57 Hunter Zambrano
PROBABLE
LB #6 John Curry
LB #10 Jacob Rodriguez
WR #21 Tristian Gentry
S #30 Mikal Harrison-Pilot
I’d also add that Arizona State has 30 total players listed on their report, with 13 being out (compared to 3 for Texas Tech).
24/7 Sports’ Tom Loy is reporting that 2027 commit DE LaDamion Guyton will reclassify to the 2026 class. I’ve mentioned this before, a lot of high-end players will be “held back” to appear to play against players a year younger, and then once they get noticed then they will reclassify back to their original class. Guyton is obviously good enough at this point to graduate in his original class.
