Texas Tech Football: Martin, White & Butler Commit

I’m not exactly sure how to do this other than to try to keep multiple lists of things that happening and to also point out a new resource. Yesterday was a flurry of activity and I think I remember head coach Joey McGuire that he was thinking 10 to 12 players was the number he wanted to supplement the roster and we are currently at 8 portal additions.

1. Returning Players: Pollock announced he would be returning so that’s 3 big returnees for the team.

  • LT Howard Sampson
  • TE Terrance Carter, Jr.
  • CB Brice Pollock

2. Committed on 1/4/2026:

  • Alabama State IR Jalen Jones (5-9/175)
  • Kansas State LB Austin Romaine (6-2/232)
  • Cincinnati QB Brendan Sorsby (6-3/235)
  • Liberty WR Donte Lee, Jr.(6-3/185)
  • Akron DL Julien Laventure (6-1/270)

3. Committed on 1/5/2026:

  • UTSA CB Davin Martin (6-2/165): As a sophomore Martin had 1 interception and along with 26 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, and 2 passes broken up.
  • San Diego State DE Trey White (6-2/255): As a junior, White had 53 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, 7 sacks, 17 quarterback hurries, and a pass broken up. That’s a ton of pressure and you just don’t see that kind of pressure.
  • Washington DL Bryce Butler (6-5/320): As a junior Butler had 19 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, and 3 quarterback hurries.

4. Predictions: These players are still predicted to commit to Texas Tech, but we’ll see.

  • Wake Forest DL Mateen Ibirogba (6-4/290)
  • Oklahoma State DE Wendell Gregory (6-3/220)

5. Resources: I wanted to add a new resource, which is from CFB Depth, Portal Tracker Team Breakdowns and they are tracking the net affect of the players transferring in and players transferring out. As of right now, it’s a lot of teams in the negative because more players have left than have committed, but that will change over time. CFB Depth also has the Texas Tech Churn Report and the Texas Tech Depth Chart (they have these for every team). The Depth Chart doesn’t have the new players added just yet, but it’s still a really good resource.
