Texas Tech Football: Ibirogba, Johnson & Trick Commit

Another busy day for Texas Tech football as they continue to load up on the defensive line and edge players. As of now, I’ve got 11 players committed and we continue to have Oklahoma State defensive end Wendell Gregory as a possible commit and a new player, Pittsburgh receiver Kenny Johnson as a new option. Johnson is a receiver, but also a pretty darned good punt returner.

1. Returning Players:

  • LT Howard Sampson
  • TE Terrance Carter, Jr.
  • CB Brice Pollock

2. Committed on 1/4/2026:

  • Alabama State IR Jalen Jones (5-9/175)
  • Kansas State LB Austin Romaine (6-2/232)
  • Cincinnati QB Brendan Sorsby (6-3/235)
  • Liberty WR Donte Lee, Jr.(6-3/185)
  • Akron DL Julien Laventure (6-1/270)

3. Committed on 1/5/2026:

  • UTSA CB Davin Martin (6-2/165)
  • San Diego State DE Trey White (6-2/255)
  • Washington DL Bryce Butler (6-5/320)

4. Committed on 1/6/2026:

  • Wake Forest DL Mateen Ibirogba (6-4/290): As a junior Ibirogba (gonna have to learn to type that) had 21 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 3 quarterback hurries, a pass broken up and a forced fumble. Ibirogba was heavily recruited and is one of those guys where the stats don’t tell the whole story as he may be the No. 1 defensive tackle on the portal board.
  • Oregon State DE Jojo Johnson (6-2/288): As a sophomore, Johnson had just 18 tackles with 6.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, 8 quarterback hurries, and an interception.
  • Miami (OH) DE Adam Trick (6-4/249): As a junior, Trick had 59 tackles, 12.5 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, 13 quarterback hurries, 4 passes broken up, 3 forced fumbles, and an interception. That’s a lot of production no matter where you are playing.

5. Predictions: It would seem that with all of the defensive edge players committing that this leaves less space for Gregory and Texas Tech usually works pretty fast. Maybe that’s one where the more time that goes on the less likely it is to happen.

  • Pitt WR Kenny Johnson (6-1/187)
  • Oklahoma State DE Wendell Gregory (6-3/220)
