1. Stats. I wish that T-Rank had split stats, between when Peterson plays and when he doesn’t, but I can guarantee when he does Kansas is a much better offensive team and he appears to be healthy. The Jayhawks are a good shooting team, 52nd in 3-point shoots, 85th in 2-point shooting, and 64th in free throw percentage. They are a low-turnover team and that adds up to being the 22nd best team in adjusted offense efficiency. They don’t get to the offensive boards, 244th, and don’t get to the line, 206th, evidence that they tend to shoot jump shots. Not a surprise that a Bill Self team is yet again good on defense. Kansas is 13th in opponent 3-point shooting, 10th in opponent 2-point shooting, 22nd in free throw rate, and 2nd in block percentage. The only thing they don’t do well is force turnovers, 349th, but they do pretty much everything else on a high level.

2. Scouting. When Peterson plays he’s absolutely devastating for opponents. He’s an absolutely fantastic shooter, 57% in 2-point buckets and 43% in 3-point shooting, while making 82% of his free throws. He is a high usage player, the only high usage player for Kansas, so expect him to have the ball a lot. Bidunga has grown a ton as a sophomore, nearly automatic when he shoots, 67%, doesn’t turn the ball over and is a fantastic shot-blocker, while being a great rebounder. White is a good compliment to Peterson at small forward, he makes 44% of his 3’s so be on the tach for that. Council is a very good floor general, he’s got a high assist rate and low turnover rate. Maybe not the shooter they hoped for, but if Person and White are hitting, it doesn’t matter.

3. How They Match Up. This is going to likely be an offensive game that both teams are sort of just making a ton of shots and you’re left wondering where the defense is. Texas Tech has to be better on defense than they were against UCF. The lack of effort to get to spots was alarming and slightly better in the 2nd half, but Kansas will absolutely kill you for that. If you think that Anderson is a terrific shooter then I’d tell you to just wait for Peterson. He’s a fun player to watch and likely a top 3 player in the NBA Draft, it will be between him, Boozer, and Dybantsa (Texas Tech will have seen all 3 of these freshmen and you can add Koa Peat as another guy that’s likely to be a top pick that Texas Tech will face later in the year).

Lady Raider Basketball: Collins scores career-high, No. 21 Tech defeats No. 12 TCU

Senior Snudda Collins tied her career-high with 28 points to propel the No. 21 Texas Tech Lady Raiders to a 62-60 win over the No. 12 TCU Horned Frogs on Sunday afternoon at the United Supermarkets Arena.

For Texas Tech (21-3, 8-3 Big 12), Collins posted her second game in the last three contests with 28 points, tying her career high. She shot 9-for-20 from the field (.450) and 3-for-6 from behind the arc (.500) to lead the way for the Lady Raiders. In addition, Collins added five rebounds and seven free throws in the win over TCU (20-3, 8-2 Big 12). The Brookhaven, Miss., native now ties for the team lead with 21 double-digit scoring games and leads the way with four 20+ point games.

Sidney Love posted her second-straight double-figure scoring game with 10 points on 50 percent shooting from the field (4-for-8) and from the three (2-for-4). Leading the Lady Raiders on the boards was Jada Malone, who totaled nine rebounds, including six on the offensive side. The Lady Raiders recorded their fourth-straight game with nine 3-pointers made as well as fifth in the last six games with nine triples, going 37.5 percent from three (9-for-24). ESPN Big Monday will feature surging teams with identical records when No. 11 Texas Tech hosts No. 14 Kansas at 8 p.m. on Monday at United Supermarkets Arena. He ranks fifth in the Big 12 with 19.6 points per game, 43.6% on 3-pointers and 3.43 made 3s per game. LeJuan Watts adds 12.7 points and 6.2 rebounds while Donovan Atwell leads the team with 73 made 3-pointers and is scoring 12.1 points per game. Through eight Big 12 games, Toppin is averaging 24.4 points and 11.3 rebounds against conference opponents and has recorded a double-double in seven games while Anderson is providing 18.0 points and 8.3 assists in Big 12 play. Dating back to last season, Texas Tech has won 12 straight home games and is 41-5 on its home court under head coach Grant McCasland.
