Yo had basketball almost all day yesterday. He got his first in-game dunk and he was pretty excited about that, plus his 2030 Showtyme team beat Southern Assault, an adidas sponsored team, in the final to win the tournament. It’s crazy to start the week off tired, but I’ll take it if I get to see Yo play. You can ask to follow YoYoJungman on Instagram and will tell him to be on the lookout for new follows. I think we’re at a point where we will make that public (it’s private right now) and I’ve secured his X/Twitter handle as I know that football operates on X/Twitter, while IG is bigger (by a longshot) in basketball.

On the Hardwood

Texas Tech general manager Kellen Buffington seemed to indicate that with the dead period over we might be on our way with some portal news. Nothing as of this morning. I do know that Texas Tech has lost out on Liberty guard Brett Decker who committed to Baylor yesterday.

Jaylen Petty announced that he was was committing to UCLA, so he’s headed back to the West Coast. I’m not going to update the Eligibility Table for just that, but will note in in the next go-round. Buffington also retweeted/reposted this and it’s probably a really wild world out there.

On the Gridiron

CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford ranks the quarterbacks with Brendan Sorsby coming at No. 13, 2nd in the Big 12:

The No. 2 transfer quarterback this cycle behind Leavitt, any Big 12 program would love to have Sorsby as its starter in 2026, but it was the Red Raiders who paid the high fee for his services. Sorsby starred at Cincinnati and replaces Behren Morton at Texas Tech, a program looking to continue its progress under Joey McGuire with another CFP berth and league championship.

Crawford has the following Big 12 signal callers ranked:

11. Noah Fifita, Arizona
13. Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech
14. Drew Mestemaker, Oklahoma State
24. Bear Bachmeier, BYU
25. Conner Weigman, Houston
28. DJ Lagway, Baylor
29. Devon Dampier, Utah
30. Avery Johnson, Kansas State
39. Jaden Craig, TCU
40. Alonza Barnett III, UCF
49. Juju Lewis, Colorado
50. Cutter Boley, Arizona State
56. Jaylen Raynor, Iowa State
61. JC French, Cincinnati
63. Scotty Fox, West Virginia
66. Isaiah Marshall, Kansas

CBS Sports’ Cody Nagel and Shehan Jeyarajah with the most irreplaceable players for the playoff contenders and this is their pick for Texas Tech:

Most irreplaceable player: AJ Holmes Jr., DL

When star defensive tackle Skyler Gill-Howard went down last season, the Houston transfer Holmes stepped into the lineup and replaced him without a hitch. Now, the disruptive defensive tackle is the only returning defensive lineman in the rotation. Holmes posted 38 tackles, nine tackles for loss and four passes defended during an outstanding season, and provides much-needed stability next to elite transfer edge rushers Adam Trick and Trey White. — Jeyarajah
