I’m a running nerd so this may only interest me but Josh Kerr shattered the mile record this weekend by 4 seconds. You can start at the 3:00 mark for 3:42 of drama. If you are interested in Kerr’s splits: 55.3 (400m), 55.8 (800m, 1:51.1 cumulative), 55.4 (1200m, 2:46.5 cumulative), and 54.9 for the final lap. Absolutely amazing.

Double-T 97.3’s Jamie Lent on Texas outfielder Ashton Larson announcing he would transfer to Texas Tech. Larson started his career at LSU and then transferred to Texas, but a couple of injury-plagued seasons led Larson to transfer this offseason. He hit .258 last year with 1 homer and 16 RBI for the Longhorns.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Stephen Garcia on the progress of 7-footer Stephanie Okechukwu:

“Stephanie coming in is gonna be just a dynamic that is crazy, that nobody else has,” Gerlich said. “She’s been really fun, and it’s been fun to watch her develop and her confidence. Just her familiarity with being in a program, being in the U.S. and feeling like she can trust us, I think it’s really helped her confidence.”

Star-Telegram’s Eleanor Dearman spoke with Cody Campbell about the Ken Paxton senate donation and says that he hasn’t spoke to Paxton about the Sorsby situation and was not aware of the letter that ended up being sent by the Attorney General’s office:

“The Sorsby thing wasn’t even on the radar at that point,” Campbell said. “So, there’s nothing to be discussed. If I had discussed it with them, it wouldn’t be out of line for me to do so.”

Houston Chronicle’s Joseph Duarte reports from the THSCA that Texas’ Steve Sarkisian and Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire are all good (thank goodness because I wasn’t sleeping at all).

USA Today’s John Brice talks to McGuire about McGuire’s support of having rules and regulations for NIL spending:

“I think it’s really important that we do have real rules that are governed and can be enforced,” says McGuire, the fifth-year Texas Tech coach whose high-profile, highly funded 2025 Red Raiders squad owns the program’s only conference title of the past 30 years.

“There is a lot of times that’s not the case. I think at some point, we’ve seen it more and more, that there has to be Congress stepping in at the federal level to help college football.”
