Texas Tech Basketball: UCF Forward Jamichael Stillwell Commits to Texas Tech

Texas Tech has a new commitment from a big man!

Out of high school, Stillwell went the JUCO route and played at Miami Dade College, then found his way to Butler C.C. for a year before landing at Wisconsin-Milwaukee for his junior year. Stillwell transferred his senior year to UCF. Stillwell has filed an injunction to become eligible and should he win that injunction, then he’s publicly stated he’s committed to Texas Tech. Given that he played two years at JUCO, it would seem that Stillwell will receive that additional 5th year, but we live in a crazy time. From an advanced stats standpoint, Stillwell is a terrific rebounder on the offensive and defensive end of things and he’s a good shooter inside the arc. Stillwell only shot 31% from deep, but he also only took 39 shots from beyond the arc.

So to address an interesting YouTube situation. RC Maxfield, who is a YouTuber that covers Texas Tech for the Red and Black Report, has said that Stillwell has been looking at Texas Tech for a couple of weeks. Then I could have sworn that Chis Level with Casey Cowan for Locked On Texas Tech said this week that because Stillwell is filing his injunction in Georgia that he would only be eligible to play in Georgia. When Level said that I immediately thought that this didn’t sound correct. It’s been a while since I took Constitutional Law, but the Full Faith and Credit Clause would seemingly allow Stillwell to be eligible to play in any state. I’m not exactly sure how all of this works and it’s been 20 years since I took that class, but an injunction in Georgia should be applicable to being able to play in any other state.

The hearing for Stillwell is apparently on July 30th so we’ll wait until then and see what happens.
