A short and sweet Morning Stake and I am praying I can fill out the preview for tomorrow in a decent way. We had regional band competition last night in Mesquite. The Kaufman High School band scored a 1 (which is the best you can score) and will move on to area in a week. The Kaufman HS football team plays tonight (yes, not Friday night) and through 8 games, he’s had to move more towards running back as the senior running back hurt his shoulder and Yo has played there more than receiver. Thus far, he’s got 573 yards on 86 carries, averaging 6.7 yards a carry, 71.6 yards a game, with 5 touchdowns. He’s also got 45 receptions with 771 yards, 17.1 yards per catch, 96.4 receiving yards a game, and 6 touchdowns.

First episode of Toughest Team Wins:
CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander and Isaac Trotter with roster valuations and Texas Tech’s is not an easy answer:
Some more context on this tier that’s important: There are a few schools in this range that are not spending $20 million as of now, but would hit that number with incentives (thus our “maximum earning” verbiage at the top of this story). Michigan is one of those schools, but the most obvious is Texas Tech. There might not be a school in the country with a wider delta between its maximum spending output vs. its True Number if its five-for-five cases don’t go through. The Red Raiders will easily clear $20 million if JT Toppin returns to full strength this season alongside three players trying to maintain their eligibility through lawsuits: Darrion Williams, Donovan Atwell and Jamichael Stillwell. If the latter three all don’t get cleared? TTU’s valuation plummets.

Latest episode of What’s Next with host Robert Giovannetti and head coach Joey McGuire.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams on the Cincinnati game and preparing for the Bearcats from receiving Coy Eakin:
“Not saying it’s a more important game; just saying it has a new environment. You have to feel more comfortable on the field than you do prep-like if we played at home. And lean on each other. We have to create our own energy, because we’re only traveling a certain amount of people there [under the Big 12 travel roster limit].”
Red Raider Sports’ Lane Selph on special teams coordinator Kenny Perry:
“I think our effort’s been awesome,” Perry said. “I think that’s kind of the first thing that always kind of gauges that, is what our effort’s like, and I think, you know, first of the year, I was not real fired up just because we had so many new guys and just trying to get them to play at the fever-pitch level that we like to play at. We’re just getting there.”
Red Raider Sports’ L. Jordan on the defense preparing for Cincinnati:
Adam Trick: “I would say a big thing for us as the D-line is four as one, four guys working together as one. Keep the quarterback in the pocket. Just understanding our rush lanes and our assignments, and understanding who we’re rushing next to, what they like to do, and just playing free, playing loose, being confident that we’ve prepared all week, and just cutting it loose once game day comes.”
Red Raider Sports’ Mason Turnbow on the offense finding its footing:
Sheridan Wilson: “Yeah, I mean, it all starts with just having a good week of practice. You know, last week was definitely our best week of practice, and then we kind of knew going into that game, you know, we’re going to go out there and ball out. So, I mean, showing that last Saturday just shows everyone that we can do it, and then just continue on from there.”
