The Morning Stake: Corey Dauphine Adds 16 Pounds; Soccer Falls to Auburn, 3-2

Lady Raiders to Host SE Louisiana. Candi Whitaker and the Lady Raiders are set to host Southeastern Louisiana tonight at 6:30 pm with the game being on FOX Sports Southwest Plus if you want to watch. I think RndRck should have a preview for tonight’s game later today.

Texas Tech to Host Iowa State on Senior Day. Texas Tech will host Iowa State on Senior Day, game starting at 3:00 pm. It is senior day for four seniors, Jenna Allen, Brianna Grant, Meghan Stacy and Carlie Foust.

Texas Tech Falls to Auburn. The Red Raiders lost to Auburn, 3-2 yesterday as Auburn scored a goal in the 100th minute. Janine Beckie scored both goals for Texas Tech. Head coach Tom Stone, who was darn close to taking his team to their second consecutive Sweet 16, on the game:

“First off, I would like to congratulate Auburn,” said head coach Tom Stone. “I thought they earned it on the day. They came with a lot of energy, played hard, which is what they’re known for, and in the biggest moment they found a way to put the game away. We have tip our hat to them for that. It’s a game we looked forward to, it’s a match-up that we like. I don’t think it was our best performance in the NCAA Tournament, which is unfortunate.”

Congrats to the ladies and Stone on another fantastic season. Wreck’Em!

Dauphine Update. LAJ’s Don Williams checks in on redshirt freshman RB Corey Dauphine, who has packed on 16 pounds and is expected to be around 210 to 215 next year. Running back and associate head coach Mike Jinks said that playing on the scout team has helped mim be a better runner, needing to drop his shoulders:

“Those guys have done a great job with him,” Jinks said, “because early in the year I really thought he ran high. I thought he ran high and he didn’t do a good job of dropping his shoulders and delivering a blow. In (scrimmages) the last couple of weeks, he’s really finished some runs.

“I guess being over there (on scout team) getting beat up on for eight or nine weeks helps you out, but he looks like he’s understanding how to initiate contact, and that excites me.”

Jackson Deals With Fan Hate. LAJ’s Don Williams talked with senior DE Branden Jackson, who had previously tweeted out a note of encouragement to Michigan punter Blake O’Neill and sent a tweet of encouragement affter O’Neill had all but gaffed and lost a game for the Wolverines. Something similar happened for Jackson as he had a personal foul against West Virginia late in the game:

“That was my first personal foul I ever got in my career,” Jackson said. “First time I ever reacted negatively in a way that some people had acted. It’s something that happens, something that I’ve been prepared for and prepped for. I just handled it the wrong way.”

Jackson’s been such a good soldier and that was a play that absolutely stunk and that wasn’t the reason why Texas Tech lost that game, it was multiple opportunities of rushing for 7 and 8 yards. I’ll never understand the need to send something mean to a player like this, other than just knowing that humans can be terrible sometimes.

High School Updates. 24/7 Sports’ Brian Perroni rounds up all of the high school action and big games and the only Texas Tech commit I found was T.J. Vasher who caught 6 passes for 113 yards.
