Both Teams Fall in Finals. Both tennis teams fell in the finals of the Big 12 Championship, which was held in Stillwater. The men fell to TCU, 4-2, and the ladies fell to Oklahoma State 4-0. They’ll both move on to the NCAA Tournament, most likely hosting a regional.

Guirantes Commits to Texas Tech. Via Wreck’Em 24/7’s Carlos Silva, Jr., Candy Whitaker and Texas Tech received the commitment from 5-11 shooting guard Arella Guirantes, who is playing this year at IMG Academy. Guirantes choose between Texas Tech, LSU and Rutgers as her final three.

Guirantes elected not to attend college immediately and attend IMG Academy, a preparatory school, to improve her “physicality” and “basketball skills” before she moved onto the college scene. She averaged 33 points, 13 rebounds, 3.5 assists, three steals and 2.6 blocks per game last season for the Ascenders.

β€œShe’s great off the dribble and she tries to exploit defenders,” said Dan Olson, who ranks high school players and recruiting classes for espnW HoopGurlz. β€œShe plays the game smart and can set you up very well. She’s very calculating on offense and can make you look good offensively.”

Texas Tech Adds Millinghaus. We posted Shadell Millinghaus’ commitment to Texas Tech yesterday and Wreck’Em 24/7’s Carlos Silva, Jr. talked with Millinghaus about his commitment to Texas Tech:

Millinghaus, who visited Texas Tech this weekend, admitted he was floored by the facilities and city of Lubbock. He recently started talking to Red Raiders head coach Chris Beard and assistant Mark Adams “about two weeks ago” before he set up a visit to the South Plains.

“I got to check out the arena, the gym, the training room and the weight room. They were all really nice,” said Millinghaus, who is expected to join the basketball program in the first summer session. “I even checked out some of the academic and tutoring centers.

“I got to see a lot of the campus. Everything was great. the academics. I just loved the college atmosphere.”

Baseball

Texas Tech Wins Game 3 and Series. The series thread was updated last night with Texas Tech’s 3-1 win over TCU, thus winning the series and Texas Tech now has a two-game lead on the second place team, Oklahoma State. Texas Tech has Kansas and West Virginia remaining on the schedule, both are under .500 in conference play. And don’t ever say that this doesn’t mean anything to head coach Tim Tadlock.
