ESPN’s Jake Trotter ranks the Big 12 wide receiver group and has Texas Tech at #3 overall:

3. Texas Tech: The Red Raiders don’t have a Michael Crabtree or Jace Amaro, but they do possess several solid and reliable options. Jonathan Giles leads this bunch after finishing fourth in the Big 12 last season with 1,158 receiving yards. Tech’s top three other receivers return alongside him in Cameron Batson (61 catches), Dylan Cantrell (57) and Keke Coutee (55). The Red Raiders would be in even better shape here if former No. 1 juco WR Derrick Willies realizes his potential after a disappointing first season marred by injury.

Rivals discusses some of assistant coach hires and here’s Rivals national guy, Mike Farrell, on Jabbar Juluke’s hire by Texas Tech:

Farrell’s take: “Juluke was hired by Texas Tech briefly last year before jumping ship to LSU only to be demoted the day after National Signing Day by new head coach Ed Orgeron. The former Louisiana high school football head coach will help efforts in Louisiana in a big way and helped develop Kenneth Dixon at Louisiana Tech and Derrius Guice this past season at LSU. While I doubt he beats LSU head-to-head for recruits in Louisiana, Texas Tech has suddenly become a possible destination for the second tier of talent in New Orleans.” – Farrell

Speaking of assistant coach hires, Chris Level said the past two days that defensive coordinator David Gibbs re-tweeted his former defensive line coach at Houston, Ricky Logo, who is currently the defensive line coach at Colorado State. Level mentioned that if the hire is Logo, then it could happen quickly, but if not, then there’s no real timetable.

Miscellaneous . . .

  • One of my favorite football-think sites is Inside the Pylon and they’ve released their first mock draft of the year and they think that Patrick Mahomes goes in the first round to Houston.
  • The police released the interview of the woman that was assaulted by Joe Mixon and The Land Grant Gauntlet has the details. Mixon’s story doesn’t get any better and why he ever played for Oklahoma after that incident, I’ll never understand (I do understand that it’s because he’s good at football). And the more ironic thing is that OU president David Boren is the one that announced the sanctions against Baylor yesterday so life is a full circle.
