Big 12 Report: Week 5 Previews

Game: Texas vs. Iowa State
Last Week: Texas: Bye | Iowa State: Bye
Date & Time: Thursday, September 28th @ 7:00 pm
Location: Jack Trice Stadium
Television: ESPN
Line: Texas -6
Expert Commentary: With only three games for the entire week for the Big 12, one of those games being this game which is on Thursday night, it’s a quiet week for the Big 12. Everyone says that Jacob Park is the best quarterback in the Big 12 that no one is talking about and they’re probably right. The Cyclones can be a completely different team at home and I think that without a doubt, they’ll give Texas a run for their money. Both teams are coming off of a bye, so they’ve had a week and a half to prepare for this game. I also tend to think that the best running back no one is talking about is David Montgomery. The Longhorns still have questions at quarterback, although I understand that if Shane Buechele is healthy, he’ll go. Chris Warren is a bruising back that can rip off huge yards. I’ll take those points and I think the game is going to be a toss-up, but will go with ISU because they’re playing at home. –Seth
Game: Baylor vs. Kansas State
Last Week: Oklahoma 49, Baylor 41 | Kansas State: Bye
Date & Time: Saturday, September 30th @ 2:30 pm
Location: Bill Snyder Family Stadium
Television: ESPN2
Line: Kansas State -14
Expert Commentary: After an emotional game against Oklahoma, I tend to get the feeling that Kansas State will be quite happy making this a very boring and very methodical win over Baylor. For Baylor, having Zach Smith at quarterback made all of the difference in the world, but he’s not without flaws. That offense is significantly better with Smith at the helm and they did improve. Credit Baylor for sticking with OU. However, Baylor tends to get one player back and then lose a couple more so I’d imagine that the health of Baylor will be a concern against a team like K-State that would prefer to just beat you up. Kansas State couldn’t do much on offense against Vanderbilt and I’d expect the Wildcats to just be better, most likely because they’re playing Baylor. I’d imagine that K-State wants Jesse Ertz and Alex Barnes to just nickel and dime Baylor to a 14 point lead and then just stay right there. I’ll Kansas State. –Seth
