I’ve put this off on posting for long enough, but D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers was the first to report that Texas Tech pitcher Steven Gingery has torn his UCL after pitching just 2.1 innings on Saturday.
.@TTU_Baseball LHP Steven Gingery has a torn UCL that will require surgery and will miss the rest of the 2018 season. Awful news for Gingery and #TexasTech. #mlbdraft

The UCL is the ulnar collateral ligament and this is often known as Tommy John Surgery. In the group text with the staff, our own Michael LaBarre thinks (and I tend to agree) that it’s most likely that Gingery has pitched his last pitch for Texas Tech as Gingery was a projected high pick in the MLB Draft. Rogers also tweeted that he thinks that Texas Tech has enough depth to overcome Ginger’s injury, but Gingery was so good last year and it will be really tough to replace him.
The Gingery news is tough for Tech, but devastating for the young man as he was a projected high #mlbdraft pick this summer. @TTU_Baseball has the pitching depth to overcome this loss.

I hope Gingery recovers well and the next pitch he makes, he’s earning a check with it.
