Big 12 Weekly Awards.

Mid-Week vs. New Mexico State. Texas Tech will host New Mexico State today at 2:00 p.m. I haven’t seen any sort of preview tweeted out by the official account and I typically don’t do previews for weekday games, so please feel free to use this as your open thread.

Gingery Has Torn UCL. I didn’t have time to post it last night, but it was confirmed yesterday that Texas Tech pitcher Steven Gingery has a torn UCL and will be out for the year. This is terrible news and one where I think it is appropriate for fans to adjust expectations for this team. Again, not the team adjusting their expectations, but it would be really tough to replicate what Gingery meant to this team (I don’t think he lost on a Saturday last year and that’s amazing).

Texas Tech Basketball

Poll Updates. The AP and USA Today Coaches Poll released their new polls and Texas Tech went up a spot in the AP poll, but stayed steady in the USA Today poll. I believe that the #6 ranking is the highest in program history.

Evans’ Toe Update. Yesterday I didn’t have any quotes, but yesterday, head coach Chris Beard spoke to the media, including RedRaiderSports’ Will McKay, before heading off to Stillwater, but Beard confirmed Keenan Evans’ toe is really a pain management issue:

“The issue is with his foot. It’s going to come down a lot to just pain tolerance and can he move. We all know Keenan is a warrior, and he’s going to do everything he possibly can to play. I have nothing but confidence in that, but at the end of the day, it’s just kind of how he reacts to his body. Really, if there’s such a thing as day to day, we’re in that situation. Literally, a couple of times a day he tries to go on it just to see how it feels, and eventually we’ve got to get him to a point where he’s comfortable enough to play in pain.”

Ultimately, Beard said that he thought that Evans would play on Wednesday:

“I just don’t think like that. I think Keenan Evans will play Wednesday if he possibly can. So, we’ll prepare the team like we always do, whether any individual plays or not. We have a team game plan. We never have an individual game plan. We’ll see what happens, but Keenan’s a warrior.”

Beard also said that nothing has changed with Zach Smith except that he has taken off the boot and he is keeping in shape by getting on the exercise bike.
