Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams: Texas Tech kicker Stone Harrington is a weapon now

This is the Colleyville Heritage graduate’s fifth and final year in the program. If there’s anything he wanted to brush up on coming out of last year, it was the mid-range kicks, the attempts between 40 and 49 yards.

“I just want to keep getting better and stay grounded,” Harrington said recently, “because we’ve got a really good snapper [Jason Llewellyn], and then Will [Karoll] coming in from UCLA is a good holder, so I’m just making sure I’m focusing on little things and trying to just tweak little things so I can really work on the 40-to-49 range. That’s where I had most of my misses, so I’m trying to dial in on that area.”

Texas Tech 30, Oregon State 17: The Red Raiders can’t afford to lose this one at all, especially with Houston coming to town next week. Look for a game that’s more uncomfortable for Texas Tech than it hopes, but still able to get the win.

Red Raider Sports’ Lane Selph: ‘It will be soon’: Joey McGuire teases Texas Tech scheduling announcement, plus more from weekly radio show

Perhaps the biggest news of the show on Thursday, is that Texas Tech fans may not have to wait much longer to know a huge piece of the Red Raiders future schedule.

McGuire said Texas Tech’s 2027 non-conference opponent will be announced “very soon,” and that he would expect it to be announced within the next “two weeks.”

Matchup to watch: Oregon State’s interior offensive line versus Texas Tech’s A.J. Holmes Jr.

Holmes is the best defensive lineman the Beavers will play this season. If Van Wells, Tyler Voltin and Nathan Elu can keep Holmes from being a one-man wrecking crew it’s a positive sign against much less capable tackles in the Pac-12. But if Holmes blows up double teams, it’s going to be easier for the rest of OSU’s schedule to identify vulnerabilities.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams: Texas Tech football schedule update — Texas State added | Report

The Texas Tech football program has filled an opening on a future schedule by adding a non-conference game against Texas State.

The Red Raiders will host the Bobcats on Sept. 14, 2030, according to a report by FBSchedules.com, citing a contract it obtained via an open-records request. Tech will owe Texas State a game guarantee of $1.2 million, the report said.

Adding Texas State fills the Red Raiders’ 2030 schedule. They open that season against Arkansas in Las Vegas, Nevada, and host Fresno State the week before Texas State.
