One Shining Moment. Congrats to Villanova, they were the best team by far in my opinion and it stinks that Texas Tech had to play them to get to the final four, but you were going to have to play them at some point. Congrats to the winner, Justin Kurz (J-Dub Bricketology), and runner-up, Thomas (DefenseGetsDubs) for winning the Staking The Plains Bracket Challenge. I owe you some prizes from the Staking The Plains Threadless Store so please shoot me an email at STAKINGTHEPLAINS at GMAIL dot COM.

Draft Stock. NBA’s David Aldridge has his ranking of draftable wings and Zhaire Smith makes the list at #7. This is not a prediction of where they are to be drafted, but where Aldridge seems them ranked based on his conversations with NBA folks. Here’s the blurb on Zhaire, which is all accurate:

“When I saw him being mentioned in the Draft, I was like, what?,” said a college coach whose team played against Smith and Tech this season. “He’s one of those freak athletes, one of those guys that the NBA likes. Elite level athleticism. He’s got some toughness to him. He doesn’t shoot it well, but he’s an elite level athlete. He doesn’t have great bounce but he can bounce it a couple of times … he’s got a lot of holes in his games but he can run the floor and he can finish. He can rebound the ball and he can probably be a good defender. If he’s going to be in the league he’s going to be one of those guys that finishes on the wing.”

Miscellaneous. In light of the NCAA Tournament, Deadspin’s David Roth on Jon Rothstein, the man behind the Twitter phrases, “Stay hungry, stay humble” and “Everyday is a gift” . . .

Spring Game. I’m headed to Frisco on Saturday to attend the spring game. I plan to get there around 2:00 p.m. and the game starts at 3:00 p.m. I also am thinking about making the trek to Lubbock for the other spring game, but haven’t decided. Anyone else going to either game (or both)?
