Red Raider Sports’ Mason Turnbow: Joey McGuire details Texas Tech’s keys to beating Cincinnati, offense has more to show
Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire stated that stopping the run against one of the best rushing attacks in the country in Cincinnati will be a huge key to the game. As they are rushing on average 231 yards a game. Establishing that part of the defense will be critical to limiting what the Bearcats can do offensively. As Texas Tech LB Austin Romaine said earlier in the week “make them one-dimensional and only be able to throw it is kind of what we like to do.”

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams: Texas Tech football breaks new ground in trip to Cincinnati
“It’s just a hundred-yard field, like anywhere we go and play,” said Eakin, a 34-game starter. “We have things that coach [Joey] McGuire takes with us: Close huddles. Preparation has to go up. Film study has to go up.

Texas Tech soccer: Second-half surge pushes No. 14 Tech past No. 16 WVU
Down 1-0 just under seven minutes in, No. 14/15 Texas Tech used a Kylie Bahr PK and a Taylor Zdrojewski header to defeat No. 16 West Virginia, 2-1 at the John Walker Soccer Complex Thursday night.
Texas Tech basketball: No. 19 Tech falls to No. 23 Kentucky in exhibition matchup
No. 19 Texas Tech took a 76-65 exhibition loss to No. 23 Kentucky on Friday at Rupp Arena in its final preseason matchup before starting the 2026-27 season.
Damarion Dennis and Donovan Atwell led the Red Raiders with 11 points each while Cruz Davis went for 10 points and seven assists. Bassala Bagayoko added 10 points and Josiah Moseley led the team with 10 rebounds. Darrion Williams finished the exhibition with nine points, three rebounds, three steals and three assists and Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn produced seven points, four rebounds and three assists.
“Rupp’s historic for a lot of reasons, but I thought that run in the first half, this place really came alive and made a huge difference. That’s what’s awesome about exhibition games and playing them on the road in a great environment like this is, you get to feel something that you haven’t felt with a new group. I thought that was huge for us to be able to respond to. And then ultimately, I thought Kentucky’s length really bothered us.”
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese: How football factored into Texas Tech basketball’s exhibition vs. Kentucky
McCasland wanted to bring one of these high-powered opponents to Lubbock for an exhibition. This time the Red Raiders are settling for a trip to Rupp Arena to take on Kentucky. While the game isn’t being played in United Supermarkets Arena, Texas Tech fans were included in the thought process of making this contest happen.
“This one happened to be the right one, really, because it would allow a lot of Red Raiders to show up because of the Cincinnati football game the following day,” McCasland said.
