Markel Reed I think makes it 10 commits and if things haven’t picked up, I’d hate to see what that would look like. RedRaiderSports’ Brandon Soliz spoke with Reed about committing to Texas Tech and what it took for him to make that choice (There’s more there, so make sure and check that out):

“When I went on my official visit it was Douglas Coleman and Thomas (Leggett) then it was coach (Clay) Jennings and (Brett) Dewhurst who just stayed in contact with me throughout this whole process and just never gave up on me.”

Reed said it wasn’t just his future coaches that didn’t give up on him through the process.

“I really want to thank my friends and family. They kept encouraging me throughout this. I just got off the phone with my mom and she congratulated me and said she was proud. They all really like Tech. I think it’s the best move for me.”

Same song, different verse, and I mean that in the best possible way. Reed is exactly what Gibbs, Jennings and Dewhurst want in a cornerback. Plays almost exclusively at cornerback, so not a ton of plays supporting the run, no big deal about that. Has nice acceleration and does a nice job of using his hands without using his creating a pass interference issue. Also does a nice job of using his body as a shield if he’s beat a bit.
