No Huddle: Kliff Kingsbury With First Practice Recap

You ready?

Kliff Kingsbury Non-Transcript: Octavious Morgan, he’s a guy that came on in the spring, things slowed down for him, he’s playing loose and fast and made a couple of nice plays out there . . . I think the first day, you’re jut excited to be out there, guys are excited to be playing football, I thought it went fairly smooth . . . We’ll be in pads on Sunday, tomorrow will be similar to today . . . [New practice fields] It’s awesome, the grass, they did a tremendous job, they let it set for a couple months, just awesome with the turf and the grass, it’s nice . . . I think that they wear themselves out in stretch, we had a few guys stretch and worn out, but you want that . . . [Available guys for punt return] Right now, 4 or 5, we feel good about guys that did it in high school, we think we have guys that can handle it . . . We’ll see, Kesean [Carter], J-High [Ja’Deion High], Seth [Collins], they are older guys and sure handed, we’ll go from there . . . [On Zach Austin] We know, being a 6 year guy, very heady player, if we can just get to the game, we’re confident he’s going to go to the right spot and catch the ball . . . [Jah’Shawn Johnson in blue shirt] Yeah, we’re going to take it slow, shoulder . . . Antoine [Wesley] had a hip issue, just taking it slow . . . Yeah, just stay even-keeled, you’re going to feel like you’re overwhelmed, I think that’s the biggest point of advice and eventually it will slow down for them . . . No question, we have a good mix, some 6th year wide receivers, those two running backs has been good . . . [Freshman running backs Sarodorick Thompson and Ta’Zhawn Henry] Yeah, they’re both sold, they both handle their business off the field, I like what I’ve seen . . . We’ll see, Donta [Thompson], Tyler [Carr], and Mason [Reed], we’ll move them around in the run game, they are all bodies we can use in that roll . . . We’ll see, Mason has to be available and has to prove he’s going to be available week to week . . .

A-J Media’s Don Williams has a notebook from yesterday that touches on the items above, including the punt return, Morgan standing out, and Williams also asking a couple of guys if they remember their first college play, some Houston guys going back to Houston to play at NRG Stadium and the reporters got to see a bit of play, with McLane Carter getting reps with the 1’s and Jett Duffey going with the 2’s.

Remember that Kingsbury said that he’s try to split time with the three quarterbacks, so I’d guess that this will rotate.

A-J Media’s Don Williams writes about running back Da’Leon Ward and how sitting out last year and how it affected him. It’s a good read and worth it. Ward just might be back with a vengence.
