Leading Off

Sorry I didn’t get as many college football open threads up last week, at this point in th season, I usually am pretty swamped at work plus basketball starts, so I’ve got more responsibility. In any event, we’ll have a CFOT up for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. And just in case you were curious as to the big games, on Thursday, if you don’t want to watch the NFL, Air Force takes on Colorado State, while Mississippi State and Ole miss play. On Friday, Texas at Kansas, Oklahoma at West Virginia, and Washington at Washington State are all in action, plus whatever games are on Saturday (as always, check out LSUFootball.net for a full schedule).

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury met with the media yesterday evening and said that he’s not sure who will start at quarterback. A-J Media’s Carlos Silva, Jr. reports that Jett Duffey walked out of the training facility yesterday on crutches and a boot on his right foot, an injury that was maybe suffered against Texas, but manifested itself more against Kansas State. As a result, Kingsbury is unsure who will be available at quarterback, but could include sophomores Colt Garrett (6-1/195; Lubbock) or Nick Gerber (6-1/175; Levelland) in addition to McLane Carter, who was pretty ineffective in his three attempts against Kansas State.

RedRaiderSports’ Jack Densmore also was there for yesterday’s media availability, which also included kicker Clayton Hatfield and defensive end Eli Howard, who Howard said that they’ll be fighting for that 6th win on Saturday:

“Personally Coach Kingsbury gave me a scholarship, so I’m sure I’m pretty biased towards rooting for him but he’s an incredible player’s coach and takes a lot of the blame for when players maybe have slip ups or poor execution or undisciplined, so I feel like this week we’re really fighting for him, fighting for each other and fighting for our seniors. We don’t want these last six days to be our last six days.”

Before news that Texas Tech may not have a scholarship quarterback available, OddsShark had Texas Tech as a 7 point favorite against Baylor.
