You may not have heard about Summerween, but it is coming up in a week or so, on June 20th. Summerween is a summer holiday that my son Fitsum thought of after watching an episode of Gravity Falls, which is a cartoon. Summerween is supposed to be a holiday for kids since there isn’t a kid-focused holiday until Halloween. Fitsum believes that this is not fair and that all of the good kid-focused holidays are in the fall and winter. Summer needs to represent. I’m embedding Fitsum’s rules for Summerween below, but for those of you who don’t want to click on the photo, I’m here to help.

“SUMMERWEEN

1. it’s about having a second holiday in the summer.
2. it is on June 20th and the third Saturday of June.
3. you can summerween anywhere you want.
4. also on summerween you eat popcicels.
5. the summerween activities are swimming or play in the sprinklers.”

I hope you all participate in Summerween. Fits did say that he wanted there to be some sort of water activity and he knew that not everyone had a pool, but he felt that most people would have access to a sprinkler. He really wants this to be for everyone. Oh, and feel free to load up on popcicels now before the rush.

Avalanche Journal’s Don Williams writes about how former Red Raider footballers Wes Welker and Tracy Saul as well as former Monterey basketball star Kamie Ethridge were three of the 32 candidates for the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. I believe that these were the three that Don suggested.

CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone ranks the top 16 impact freshmen and Jonathan Kuminga is at #9 and although I don’t think he ever takes a dribble for Texas Tech, Nimari Burnett is at #16:

Here’s an interesting one subject to change. If Kuminga stays in 2021 or reclassifies and goes anywhere besides Tech, Burnett should then get a healthy bump on this list. He’s a lethal scorer with a smooth stroke who should thrive in Tech’s guard-friendly system that is on the cusp of producing first-round talents in three consecutive years.

Sports Illustrated has their latest mock draft and they have Jahmi’us Ramsey picked at #25 by the Oklahoma Thunder:

Scouts are all over the board on Ramsey, but he has an intriguing first-round case even after a somewhat underwhelming year at Texas Tech. He did shoot 42% from three, but for a guard with his type of physical tools, his lack of impact defensively and struggles putting pressure on the rim created real concerns. The Thunder usually don’t shy away from long-view development situations, and Ramsey can be seen as a buy-low in the middle of the draft depending on how optimistic you are that this season was more a blip on the radar. In high school, Ramsey showed more upside in the secondary areas of his game, and the hope is that he inches closer to that as a multifaceted scoring guard.

That’s pretty consistent first round status for Ramsey.
