Fox34 (and others) report that the arrest of Texas Tech linebacker Brandon Bouyer-Randle was not involving the evasion in a watercfraft, which was what was initially reported.

In any event, a person (the police were not sure it was Bouyer-Randle) was threatening to shoot people at the IHOP and Jason’s Deli, that person was in a Cadillac or Chrysler 300. The police roll up and find the Cadillac traveling with just parking lights on and tried to stop the vehicle:

โ€œUpon arrival, I immediately observed a black Cadillac in the Jason’s Deli and Ihop parking lot travelling northbound using only parking lights immediately west of Jason’s Deli towards the north parking lot of the joined businesses. I pulled into the parking lot and initiated a stop on the aforementioned vehicle which immediately pulled into a parking spot after I activated my overhead lights. I then advised LPD Communications that I had stopped the related vehicle.

โ€œDue to the circumstances and the possible involvement of a firearm, I exited my vehicle and began to issue commands to the driver whom was later identified as A1. I drew my duty pistol and held it at a low position while issuing commands. I yelled for A1 to lower his window multiple times as I established cover behind the vehicle that was parked west of him.

โ€œI observed A1 look at me from the driver’s seat which further indicated to me that he was aware that a peace officer was attempting to detain him. A1 continued to disregard commands before placing his vehicle in reverse. A1 began to back out of his parking spot after disregarding commands with the intent to flee from officers. I made contact with the black Cadillac using the front push bar of my patrol vehicle in order to contain the vehicle and prevent the driver from fleeing. A1 was removed, handcuffed, and identified.

โ€œDue to the totality of the circumstances, it was apparent that A1 intentionally used his motor vehicle to flee from a person A1 knew was a peace officer attempting to lawfully detain him. A1 was arrested for evading in a motor vehicle.”

There’s an additional report at the link that made my head spin (but did possibly include ditching a gun), but I’m also writing this at 4:00 a.m. Either way, this doesn’t sound real great for Bouyer-Randle.

It was reported in yesterday’s press conference with head coach Matt Wells that kicker Trey Wolff would be replaced by Jonathan Garibay. Avalanche Journal’s Don Williams has additional details and quotes.

Avalanche Journal’s Don Williams also has a notebook on yesterday’s press conference, which starts with the news on the Baylor side of things that their leading tackler, linebacker Terrell Bernard and leading rusher, Craig Williams, are both out for the rest of the season. Head coach Matt Wells was also asked about defensive end Gilbert Ibeneme, who has been injured quite a bit since he arrived in Lubbock and is now seeing some action, and also discussed Adam Beck, who had a heck of a game on Saturday.

The Associated Press released their initial preseason poll and Texas Tech comes in at #14. Other Big 12 notables is Baylor at #2, Kansas at #6, West Virginia at #15, and Texas at #19. If you wanted to see how the AP voters voted, College Poll Tracker is your place to check out.

The men’s basketball team is rolling out “This is Texas Tech basketball” which is similar to the “This is Sportscenter” commercials, sort of a mockumentary in a way, this time lauding Mac McClung’s free throw shooting rather than the dunks he is usually known for. Even includes an appearance by Dick Vitale, which is always great. Good times.
