Texas Tech received a No. 6 seed in the South Region and will play No. 11 Utah State. The second round, should Texas Tech defeat the Aggies, would play the winner of No. 3 Arkansas or No. 14 Colgate. Ohio State is the No. 2 seed and will play Oral Roberts, while No. 7 Florida will play No. 10 Virginia Tech.

The other part of that region features Baylor, Villanova, Purdue and another Texas Tech in North Texas.
