Texas Tech Basketball Notebook: Santos-Silva on his Father; Schedule Updates; Shannon at NBA Combine

A few basketball links that I wanted to get out, some are obviously a bit dated, but still felt that they needed to be highlighted.

Marcus Santos-Silva writes about this past Father’s Day, the first one without his father, Luis, who was 51, passed away from Covid-19 complications:

“He’s my best friend. He’s my guy,” Marcus says. “Everything I have is because of him. Every game I played, he was there. Every time I needed him, he was there. He didn’t miss a moment of my life. He was my superman. He did everything possible to make his kids feel special. It’s going to really hard this year not seeing him at the games. Before every game I’d look around and find him. That locked me in. I can’t even imagine right now what it’s going to be like with him not there.”

The third photo, the one of the entire Santos-Silva family smiling on the United Supermarkets Arena floor is a terrific photograph, Marcus has a little brother that looks almost exactly like him and you definitely see the resemblance of he and his father.

Via the official site, Terrence Shannon, Jr. was invited to the NBA Draft Combine, I think one of 56 players invited. Via EverythingLubbock, Mac McClung is at the NBA G-League Elite Camp, which is like a step down from the combine, but also an opportunity for players to be exposed a bit. McClung posted the 7th highest vertical leap of 43.5 inches, 7th best ever, and also a 2.94 second 3/4 court sprint, the second fastest since 2001.

We’ve already talked about how Texas Tech will play Gonzaga in Phoenix in December, now you can add Tennessee to the non-conference schedule with Texas Tech playing the Volunteers at Madison Square Garden in the Jimmy V Classic also in December, and now you can add Mississippi State as part of hte Big 12/SEC Challenge on January 29th.

Episode 2 of Kev’s Corner with Kevin McCullar being joined by Adonis Arms and Davion Warren. Definite improvement, more smooth I think, so that’s great!
