Player profile #3 of the run of commits is Syncere Massey, who was previously committed to Arizona State before Joey McGuire arrived in Lubbock.

RedRaiderSports’ Matt Clare wrote about Massey’s commitment to Texas Tech:

“I trust in Coach McGuire, I’m following him right now. I’m done with recruiting, my recruitment is closed. I wanted to play with Harvey in college and I wanted to play closer to home. Also, Texas Tech is a state school and I wanted my twin sister to come to school with me, so now she can come along and we are trying to figure that out.

“Plus, it was more about the opportunity to help turn around the program at Texas Tech.”

Massey is a bit more athletic right now than Dyson, but that’s not a criticism of Dyson, everyone matures at different rates. Massey seems pretty athletic right now, a bit more fast-twitch and could see him at defensive end a bit more, looks a bit stronger, and could definitely see him inside and with 20 pounds on him pretty easily. And let’s be clear that all three of these players are defensive and that’s a win right there. We all know that recruiting is largely containing attrition and developing players and these are three players that are perfect for that.

All of the 2022 commits have been completed and now we need to work on those two 2023 commits, outside linebacker Isaiah Crawford and offensive lineman Kaden Carr.
