Texas Tech Football: 2022 National Signing Day Open Thread

Today is National Signing Day, a national holiday for some. The past few years, this day has been a formality more than event. We all knew pretty much who was going to sign with Texas Tech and there weren’t a ton of surprises. With the hiring of Joey McGuire, I don’t think that’s going to be the case. I want to remind you of the static 2022 Texas Tech Football Commit page complete with a fancy map.

I’ve always professed that I don’t know anything about recruiting, but I do like to think that I can find the people that do, and now that predicting where a player might sign is a thing where recruiting people are judged, we get some insight as to who might commit to Texas Tech today. By the way, these links are public and in no particular order. I like all of these people even though I’ve never met any of them and think they all do a fantastic job.

Rivals’ Matt Clare:

  • Landon Hullaby | Safety | 6-0/185 | Timberview (Arlington, TX)
  • Trevon McAlpine | Defensive Tackle | 6-3/290 | Saraland (Saraland, AL)
  • Seth Martin | Offensive Line | 6-4/295 | Everman (Everman, TX)

Rivals’ Ben Golan:

  • Landon Hullaby | Safety | 6-0/185 | Timberview (Arlington, TX)
  • Trevon McAlpine | Defensive Tackle | 6-3/290 | Saraland (Saraland, AL)
  • Seth Martin | Offensive Line | 6-4/295 | Everman (Everman, TX)

24/7 Sports’ Jarrett Johnson:

  • Trevon McAlpine | Defensive Tackle | 6-3/290 | Saraland (Saraland, AL)
  • Sydney Mbanasor | Tight End | 6-6/210 | Pflugerville (Pflugerville, TX)
  • Jordan Nabors | Wide Receiver | 5-11/180 | Rockwall-Heath (Rockwall, TX)
  • Seth Martin | Offensive Line | 6-4/295 | Everman (Everman, TX)

The only other player that might flip is Major Everhart (5-11/175) from Amarillo. Everhart is originally committed to TCU and committed under TCU’s former staff so maybe there’s a chance.

There were three transfers that were confirmed yesterday.

  • Brady Boyd (6-1/185): Receiver transferring from Minnesota, originally from Southlake Carroll.
  • Tyler Owens (6-2/204): Safety transferring from Texas, originally from Plano.
  • Dimitri Moore (6-3/208): Linebacker that started at Vanderbilt and then transferred to Missouri State, originally from Cedar Hill.

This will be your open thread for the day. You know how this goes and don’t think that I need to tell you how this works, but you all help the community as the day goes by with posting about the commitments.

UPDATE: I forgot that I usually include my Texas Tech Twitter list if you’d like to follow it. I’ve tried to include each new coach as well as other Texas Tech media notables.

Also wanted to note that Texas Tech will produce some content this evening at 6:00 p.m. where head coach Joey McGuire will break down the recruiting class. This will be broadcast on ESPN+, so that’s pretty neat.
