3. Some Stats & Notes

Doeren started coaching almost right after his playing career at Drake, starting out at high school and then bouncing around, including a stint at Kansas where he was the defensive coordinator before filling that same role in Wisconsin . . . Doeren then was the head coach at Northern Illinois where he went 23-4 in two years including an Orange Bowl win. Doeren has been at NC State for 9 years and after a rough start of 3-9, he’s had just 1 losing season from 2014 to 2021 . . . Last year the Wolfpack went 9-3 and their best win was a 27-21 win over Clemson at home.

Believe it or not Ruffin McNeill as a special assistant to the head coach, while Brian Mitchell, an assistant coach at Texas Tech and West Virginia and East Carolina . . . On the offensive side, Tim Beck was the bee’s knees at Ohio State, then ran off to Texas with Tom Herman and was quickly run off when Herman was let go. I had wondered where he went and well, he’s been pretty good at NC State I think . . .

Devin Leary returns at quarterback where he completed 66% of his passes, averaging 286 yards a game with 35 touchdowns and just 5 picks . . . Thayer Thomas and Devin Carter will be his main receiving threats, Thomas caught 51 for 596 and 8 touchdowns while Cater caught 31 for 556 yards and 6 touchdowns . . . Defensively Drake Thomas is likely the best player with 100 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss and 6 sacks (and 3 picks) and the linebackers are their best group with Payton Wilson and Isaiah Moore (43 tackles and 5 tackles for a loss (and 7 quarterback pressures) right behind him. Safety Tanner Ingle anchors the secondary with 82 tackles and Cory Durden anchoring the line with 31 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks and 7 quarterback pressures . . .

This final note will only interest some, but when you do computer things you need to get the correct color and every team has their own color code. It just so happens that NC State and Texas Tech have the exact same HEX color codes, our reds are #cc0000 and of course we both utilize the same black and white as well . . .
