I thought for sure that the official site would release the video from the post-practice media session, but that didn’t happen.

Basketball

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams reports on a good chunk of the non-conference schedule, which includes home games against Northwestern State, Texas Southern, Louisiana Tech, Creighton and Louisville or Arkansas as well as another TBD opponent (in Maui), Georgetown, Nicholls State, Eastern Washington, Houston Baptist, South Carolina State, and LSU.

Football

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams reports on some injuries and things are getting a bit thin on the offensive line according to head coach Joey McGuire. Weston Wright banged up his ankle at the beginning of practice and he was held out as a precaution. Landon Peterson suffered an undisclosed injury (not disclosed by McGuire) has also been injured, but should be back shortly. Cole Spencer also has still not been cleared to practice, but McGuire seems to be okay with that from what I remember from last week and that he’s on schedule.

That meant that Jacoby Jackson and Michael Shanahan were with the first team as the starting guards.

Weakside linebacker Derrick Lewis is going to be out multiple weeks, some injury near his hamstring and knee, but will not require surgery.

Tight end Mason Tharp has been out this week, but will be back next week.

Red Raider Sports’ Justin Apodaca also recapped the media scrum and wrote that linebackers coach Josh Bookbinder discussed who has stood out thus far:

“You know, Jacob (Rodriguez) had a really good spring and is continuing to improve,” Bookbinder said. “Dimitri (Moore) is getting some reps there. I think Tyrique Matthews is having a good camp and then Krishon (Merriweather) is steady.”

Also summarized is media scrum time with Jacob Rodriguez and Marquis Waters.
