A huge assist to Dave for assisting with the theme and getting things working to the point where posts are here and comments work. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the effort. There will likely still be things that look wonky, but it works and that’s the key, click on post –> comment.

Congratulations to Texas Tech soccer for outright winning the Big 12 Championship last night with a 1-0 win over Iowa State. An Elie Anderson redirect with an Asleigh Williams kick-in was all that Texas Tech needed. Texas Tech finished 8-0-2, undefeated in Big 12 play, and are 14-0-4 overall, including a 10-0 record at home. This is the first Big 12 Championship in program history. A huge accomplishment for Coach Stone and the entire program.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams has his weekly Q&A, with questions about why Texas Tech is playing 3 quarterbacks the past few years (because of injuries?) and why the offense isn’t more quarterback friendly, but here’s Don’s answer on why the defense hasn’t been as good.

Q: With so much leadership returning on the defense how can they explain the poor performance this year (~75th points allowed and ~60th yards allowed)?
DW: I’d say it’s because they have quite a few solid to good players on that side, but no great players. No one who makes game-changing plays on a regular basis or wrecks an offense.
As of Sunday, Tech ranks 67th in the FBS in scoring defense and 59th in total defense out of scoring defense out of 130 teams. Those are decent numbers, good even by Tech standards of recent years. As I’ve written a few times this season, though, the defense has been guilty of allowing long drives late and breaking in close games. It happened in the losses against Wyoming, Oregon, West Virginia and Kansas State.
