Head coach Joey McGuire met with the media yesterday and he says is that Behren Morton is throwing and would play today if there was a game this weekend. Really a lot of injury updates today.
-
- Tight end Mason Tharp should be back this week.
- Guard Cole Spencer has a broken toe and they are being cautious with it.
- Rusty Staats is moving to right guard and Dennis Wilburn is going to center (where he played last year) because Staats has a bad elbow and 26% of snaps were off-target.
- Jacob Rodriguez is expected to play against TCU.
Dallas Morning News’ Justin Apodaca (who previously and I think still writes at Red Raider Sports) has the injury updates. Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams writes that the staff could find no evidence that Jayden York spit on a BYU defensive lineman and the same BYU defensive lineman said that Caleb Rogers did the same thing, but both players denied doing that. Personally, I didn’t see it and McGuire mentions that if someone spits in your face, you have some sort of reaction, but the lineman didn’t, just complained about it. Red Raider Sports’ Jarrett Ramirez also gives a quick update on what the rest of the week will be like.
“Sunday is like a Tuesday,” McGuire said. The team’s schedule has adjusted with the contest against TCU slated for next Thursday. “Tomorrow we’ve got community service, we’re going to a bunch of elementary schools to read. They’ve got a big lift in the morning. Friday they’ll be off. Saturday’s kinda like a Monday, so it’s an off day for them, but we’ll have all our cut-ups of TCU so they could come in and watch on Saturday.”
Head coach Grant McCasland met with the media on Tuesday and opened by saying that everyone was healthy, which is great news. He talks about the upcoming scrimmage in Denton on Sunday against Texas A&M. Interesting to hear a question about the center rotation and said that Warren Washington is obviously the guy, but said that Eemeli Yalaho, Robert Jennings and KyeRon Lindsay will all get opportunities inside.
Dallas Morning News’ Justin Apodoca previews the team overall if you’d like to take a look at that. CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander ranks the top 100 teams and has Texas Tech at 80 overall:
Grant McCasland might well have Texas Tech in the mix near the top of the standings by Year 3 with the Red Raiders, but we’ll keep expectations reasonable in his first season. McCasland was a terrific coach at North Texas and an ideal candidate to take over here after Mark Adams flamed out. The Red Raiders brought on Joe Toussaint from WVU and Devan Cambridge and Warren Washington from Arizona State. Its games will probably be the mud, if McCasland has his way. If this hits, TTU could have its coach for the next 10-plus years.
