Some Hither, Others Yon

Scattershooting while wondering what happened what happened to Chris Walker . . . I’m going to try to do something like this weekly (fingers crossed) and then one deep dive into a football thing a week as well . . . If you are curious about where and who is voting for Texas Tech in the AP poll then College Poll Tracker is a pretty great resource and one to bookmark. As of the week of January 8th, the highest voter is Bob Ballou at No. 18 with a majority of the voters holding out for the time being and sit at No. 31 . . . If you are like me in any way then you’ve really not cared too much about NET Ratings for entry into the NCAA Tournament. It replaced RPI and it is supposed to be the winning percentage, average opponent’s winning percentage, and average opponent’s opponent’s winning percentage. That’s not a typo “opponent’s opponent’s”. Additionally, it includes the following:

The NET includes more components than just winning percentage. It takes into account game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency, and the quality of wins and losses.

Now you know.

The next four games should prove to be pretty difficult so don’t go jumping off of any 3-foot bridges. It starts with T-Rank No. 1 Houston on the road on Wednesday (even after the loss to TCU on the road), then hosting T-Rank No. 9 BYU, then on the road for T-Rank No. 28 Oklahoma and T-Rank No. 30 TCU before heading back home. That’s a combined record of 53 and 11 for those 4 teams . . . It’s way too early for me, but Texas Tech just held one of their junior days and their 2025 class sits at No. 18 with 7 commits thus far. There are 4 of the 7 that are rated thus far, receiver Isaiah Robertson is a 3-star, quarterback Lloyd Jones, III is a 4-star, receiver Tristian Gentry is a 3-star, and last, but not least is receiver Leyton Stone is a 3-star. If the name Stone sounds familiar, it’s because he is the son of Texas Tech soccer coach Tom Stone . . . Texas Tech baseball starts on February 16th at Globe Life Field for the Shriners Children’s College Showdown. They will face Tennessee, Nebraska, and Oregon to start the season . . . But that’s not all, they will stay in Arlington and take on UTA and Oregon State on February 20th and 21st . . . Enjoy your snow/ice day!
