Housekeeping

I have been sick, a spring cold started on Thursday and continuing this morning. Good times. The good news is that although I didn’t post over the weekend, I did write quite a bit, 5 things I learned about the offense and 5 things I learned about the defense after spring practice, as well as a piece on Texas Tech basketball and what they need to improve that team based on stats. I’ll start posting those over the next week!

On the Gridiron

The 2024 NFL Draft was on Thursday, Friday & Saturday and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson was drafted by the Cardinals in the 4th round and Myles Cole was drafted by the Jaguars in the 7th round. There were also a handful of undrafted free agent signings as well:

No. 104 (4th Round) – Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, DB (Arizona Cardinals)
No. 236 (7th Round) – Myles Cole, DE (Jacksonville Jaguars)
UDFA – Austin McNamara, P (Cincinnati Bengals)
UDFA – Baylor Cupp, TE (Kansas City Chiefs)
UDFA – Xavier White, WR (Indianapolis Colts)
UDFA – Rayshad Williams, DB (Las Vegas Raiders)
UDFA – Cole Spencer, OL (Tennessee Titans)
UDFA – Tyler Owens, DB (Washington Commanders)

On the Diamond

Let’s get to the bad news first. Texas Tech baseball was swept this weekend in Kansas. A 4-3 loss on Friday night, a 11-2 loss on Saturday, and on Sunday a 7-3 loss. Last week felt great, maybe things were headed in the right direction and then to get swept with only one real close game isn’t a great look. I am definitely at the point where I think a change needs to happen, a lot of folks are pointing at the pitching having issues and I’d agree, but the offense seems a bit stuck as well. In no way shape or form do I want Tim Tadlock to go away, but I think change is necessary and thinking there needs to be an assistant coach overhaul isn’t something that makes me happy, but I think there’s been some significant inconsistency over the last couple of years. This group is now 7th in the Big 12, face UTRGV on Tuesday and host Oklahoma over the weekend.

Softball took the series in Houston starting with a 7-6 win to open things up, a 8-0 shutout win for Houston, and a 5-2 win on Sunday to take the series. Softball very much needed a series win, moving to 8-13 in the conference. They will face Texas in Austin over the weekend.

On the Court

Minnesota point guard Elijah Hawkins was on his official visit with Texas Tech over the weekend. This would be a big get for Texas Tech and Grant McCasland. I think on every player who has visited, McCasland has closed and am hoping I didn’t jinx anything.

Pop Isaacs committed to Creighton over the weekend and I wish Pop luck and much success!
